(This chapter happens after the events of Faerie Bound chapter "Lecture!")
I regretted the words the moment they left my mouth. Honestly, not even that earful I'd got from Ben had knocked any sense into my head. Or for that matter the banging I'd sustained in the fight with Pete.
Not that either of those would be anything compared to this.
Sparring with Mike, what was I, an idiot? Did I want to have the stuffing knocked out of me?
Ah well, I'll still give him a run for his money.
I stood up and shook my shoulders a bit, getting ready to start running. I didn't have a hope in heck out beating Mike in hand-to-hand, but I could certainly tire him out.
Running had always been a strong point for me.
Morgan looked at me, slightly aghast. She evidently thought I was being a fool taking on her dad when my injuries were so newly healed.
To be honest, I thought I was being a fool too.
But I have to prove it to Mike that I'm worth her. He wants to test me, and I'm going to make sure I pass them. I loved Morgan more than anything, and I was going to make him see that.
Even if I end up dead in the process.
I approached Mike, who suddenly looked a lot bigger than I'd first thought.
"Ready when you are."
