The Grey Wolf

“Ari” the girl whispers narrowing her eyes and edges for the knife in her back pocket, just in case.

“You…” the wolf growls in a low deep voice. Blood dribbles from its chin and bits of dead animal can be seen hanging from its razor sharp teeth. “Have you given yourself a name yet?”

“No. There’s no time”

“I suggest you get one then”

“Like what?”

“I don’t know…. How about Sky?” the girl looks up curiously expecting something to drop down and hit her. “Yes that kind of sky. I will call you Sky”

“Enough – have you got the dagger?” the girl, Sky now, looks towards the ground rubbing her neck. “I’ll take that as a no, you need to go back”

“Are you mad?” Sky starts yelling now. “They’ll catch me if I go back”

“I’ll go with you. I lost my pack near the mountain. We shall go together” the wolf walks over to her; she relaxes her muscles knowing that she will be safe. For now that is. Sky turns around, and glares at the trees before her. “What is it?”

“I cant go back” Tears swell up in her eyes, the sudden fear of going back where she came from shocks her.

“We have to. It’s the only way we need that dagger”

“Fine. Protect me”

“That’s what I’m here for, now let’s go” Sky and the great grey wolf set off together. The wolf close to her as her bodyguard, her only bodyguard. If only the rest of the pack were here she would feel much safer. But they aren’t. They now set off through the trees leaving footprints behind them.
