"LET"S GO CRANEBROOK!" Astrid hollered as she kicked on of her long, slender legs into the air. She brought it down, shaking the pom-poms that she held in her hands. She leaped into the air spreading her legs and then landing down perfectly. the rest of the squad followed behind her, like a well oiled machine. That Friday afternoon the cheer leading squad had begun practicing for the game that was set to begin the football season two weeks later.
Elion watched from the bleachers as her best friend practiced with the cheer leading squad. In the distance she could hear the sounds of guitars and new that Vanessa and her friends were practicing for an upcoming performance. She herself would have been running around the track, but she had decided that she was just going to sit out, it was to much of a chance for someone to see her strange..rash, if she could call it that.
She rolled up her long sleeve shirt, looking at the strange butterfly symbols that rested on her arms. She didn't know what to call them, but she was close to deciding that it was some type of disease, the way it was spreading up her arm. Last night it was a simple ring around her wrist, but now it stopped a few inches away from her elbow. She bit her lip before she rolled her sleeve back down and looked toward Astrid who was climbing to the top of the pyramid.
It was quite the structure until one of the girls, lost her grip and the whole thing came tumbling down. Elion closed her eyes and rose to her feet, waving her arms to get Astrid's attention.
"You ok?" she screamed.
Astrid shook her and then gave her a thumbs up before she rose to her feet and stated to tell the girls that they needed to be stronger. Elion sat back down and smiled slightly but it quickly melted away. She wondered if any girl went through something like this. She was seriously starting to doubt that. She was tempted to show her sister but she was scared, she didn't know what to do. She leaned her elbows on her legs and then placed her face in the palm of her hands.
What is happening to me? I all ways thought I was the semi-normal one. Astrid is the all ways "I'm so happy and peppy, let's go shopping," type of girl and Vanessa is a rocker, I thought I was just...a normal girl. Well this isn't normal, no matter how you classify it. Maybe I should-
"Shouldn't you be doing laps around the track?" Maika asked as he sat down beside her.
"Not today, I'm not feeling to hot. Where were you today?" Elion asked, without looking at him.
"I was at home...I needed to nurse a wound," Maika said quietly.
Elion raised an eyebrow before looking at Maika and seeing that his head was wrapped in a white bandage. Her eyes went wide before she sat up, moving her mouth, but no words escaping her lips.
"What happened to you?" she finally managed to ask.
"I was at the wrong place at the wrong time is all," Maika said, sporting his award winning smile.
Elion let out a sigh, "Well at least your still Maika. So did you hear the latest news?"
"Alucard is coming to Cranebrook Meadows today," Maika said, his voice stern and hard.
"He's all ready here and look here comes one of his vans now," she said, pointing to a black truck, with a large A on the side of it. On the back of the truck, Alpha was scrawled in bright red paint. Elion frowned, that was 6th van that she had seen today and she was sure that this usually didn't happen when Alucard visited towns, "What do you think their doing?"
"Searching," he said quietly.
"Searching? What could they possibly be searching for?" Elion asked, looking at Maika with a questioningly.
They stared each other down for a moment, before he closed his eyes an shook his head with a shrug. "Anything, Elion. Anything,"
Elion nodded her head before closing her eyes and looking toward the sky as a warm wind blew her hair away from her face. She took in a deep breath before opening her eyes, looking back toward the field.
"Hey, is something bothering you?" Maika asked.
"No, just family issues. My sister has become a devout Alucard fan in less then 24 hours once she heard that he was coming to town this morning. And Evan...I think Evan has fallen into the wrong crowd," Elion said a worried look on her face.
"They've started a young Alpha advocate group for 18 year olds and up. He's decided that he wants to join and be reformed. He's attending the speech today over at the arena with my sister. They wanted to bring me along but I refused,"
"Good," Maika said, looking at her with a strange gentleness.
A strange feeling washed over Elion in that moment when she saw his face. So gentle yet at the same Maika's face was protective. A warm feeling washed over and all she wanted to do was be held. Forget about Alucard, forget about her brother and sister who were joining the rest of the nation, she even wanted to forget what was happening to her. She smiled at Maika, her gray eyes shimmering a bit. After a while she managed to look away, a content smile on her face.
"Elion, I have bad feeling," Maika said after a while.
"What do you mean?"
"It's just a bad feeling. But promise me that you'll stay out of trouble all right?"
"Of course," she said, with a nod of her head.
A minute or so later another one of Alucard's black trucks drove by and this time they were making a announcement.
"Cranebrook Meadows has decided to have a reform. Cranebrook meadows has decided to have a reform. Come join us at the Meadows Arena this evening at 7 o'clock. Hear what the reform has in store for you," a voice boomed over a intercom. Every soul that was out on the field stopped and watched the truck, no one moved or spoke.
During the deadly silence, Elion felt a strong pain in her arm, so strong that it felt as if it were burning off. She winced for a moment, biting her lip and waiting for the pain to stop. It throbbed and burned for a few more minutes before she leaned back for a bit and let out a sigh.
"What is happening..." she muttered under her breath.
"Maika, can you walk me home?" she asked.
"Of course, but are you ok?"
"I don't know," she answered truthfully before she rose to her feet and walked off the field, Maika close behind.
"Mr. Alucard, this is Colonel Edward Thomson,"
"Good afternoon Colonel, do you have any news for me?" Alucard asked.
"Yes, and I think you might like this news sir. We have a reading. The butterfly is here. Would you like us to go forward with the plan?"
"Hmm...interesting. All right. Yes, but after I have all the adults, and then you can begin your plan,"
"Yes, sir when would you like us to begin?" the colonel asked, fixing his army fatigue hat.
"Sunday, start Sunday, and start on the west side and work your way down. Take as much time as you need. We are no longer in any rush. report to the nation wide teams and tell them to begin acting as well. Tell them the US has finally decided to go under a reform, understood?"
"Good," Alucard said, hanging up the phone.
"Men, get the word out. Operation reform US is set to begin on Sunday. No if ands or buts. Let's make sure that everything is ready to go," the Colonel said as he rose to his feet,
And so the plan begins.
