I knew my eyeliner was drying onto my eyes. Grace looked at me and frowned, in a sympathetic way.
"Tell us everything," the woman said.
We would not say anything about Mr. Parker, though. We had agreed. And we had promised Julia.
"Julia?" Anne Marie asked.
"Yes," the woman said, "do you know what happened that night?"
The night of May 29th. I remembered that we were all drunk that night. The guys were there, even Adam. It was in Dexter's dorm room. But, Dexter wasn't there. Adam was his roommate. Anyway, Mr. Parker caught us drinking, since he was on supervisor duty for that day. Mr. Jergens was out sick. He told us that he wouldn't say anything if we cleaned up instantly. But, we jokingly offered him a drink. Well, Julia did. And he couldn't resist her. The guys left after he came in, except Adam. Julia was talking to Mr. Parker, calling him Justin and acting as if they were dating. And this upset Adam. And he left. We thought he went to Jacob's room. We never knew. But then, Mr. Parker left. Joking around, we fell asleep. And then, when we woke up, Julia was gone. But her empty glass was exactly where she had left it and her sweater and purse were untouched. So went outside to look for her. We thought she may have been back in her dorm, so we went back to sleep. And the next morning, Jennett said she never came back. And we couldn't find her since. And that's all I have the right to say.
The woman waited.
"We don't remember," Grace said, firmly.
"How come? You need to remember something."
"Well," I said, "we were in a dorm room, watching a movie and we fell asleep. End of story. Next day she was gone."
"That's all you know?"
"What movie? And what time?"
"The Wizard of Oz at ten," Anne Marie said.
We were good liars.
"We'll stop here for today. Officer Rogers will drop you off."
She sighed, noting something down in her notebook. We left.
"What happened?" Grace asked.
I folded my arms across my chest, sneaking a glance at Stacey. She wouldn't look at me. I shrugged, walking faster than the rest of them. And I ignored everyone for the rest of the ride.
Good thing you didn't tell the whole truth, girls. Otherwise, there would have been heavy consequences.
Another note. I placed it with the other one and sighed. Stacey was asleep, or at least closing her eyes and ignoring me and Grace and Anne Marie had to go make sure about the funeral. I sighed, walking out the room. It was only 3. I had taken a long, hot shower, just to waste time. Francesca came up to me.
"You had sex with Jacob?" she asked.
My heart bounced.
"Why are you asking me that?"
"It's all over Facebook, honey," she said, "so you were the ones that hooked up at my party?!? Oh my god, this is... wonderful."
She walked away. How was it on Facebook? Dexter. I stormed to the boys' dorm room and knocked on his door. He opened it, his eye rimmed in purple and swollen. He groaned.
"You posted the sex tape on Facebook?!?" I asked.
"No. I just gave it to Stacey, bitch."
"You didn't do it?"
"No, Stacey did. She's really pissed. Can I go now?"
He waited a bit. I didn't reply, and he closed the door. I folded my arms across my chest. I sucked my bottom lip in and walked away. I walked to Mrs. Vanderbrook's office. Jacob came out of the door, grinning.
"Why are you smiling?" I asked.
"I just got suspended," he said.
"Jakey," I said, "this is like the fifth time in... barely 2 months."
"Yeah, well, Dexter obviously doesn't care. Anyway, I heard about... the tape on Facebook. Damn, we're viral, baby!"
"It's not funny," I said.
I felt the tears well up in my eyes.
"Shit," he whispered, "you're crying."
"Shut the fuck up," I said, wiping my eyes, smiling a little.
I punched his arm gently. He smiled a little.
"No," I moaned.
"You wanna talk?"
"No, you obviously won't get it."
"I wanna get it," he whispered.
He took my hand and took me to the janitor's closet, closing the door. He sat on a turned-over garbage can.
"Ok," he said.
"Do you seriously wanna watch me cry?" I said.
"Sure," he said, "I've seen you cry before, even if it was for stupid reasons. But... go ahead cry."
"But it's a turn-off!" I moaned.
"You're never gonna be a turn-off," he said, "I could have a boner after to make you feel better."
"What? You got your handy-dandy Viagra on you?"
"Yup," he said, "she's standing right in front of me."
"That was probably the lamest pickup line I've ever heard," I said, shaking my head.
"Just testing it out," he said, "anyway, tell me."
And I told him. About Stacey. About Dexter. About almost everything. And he sighed after. That's it. But, talking to him made me replace my sadness about Stacey with anger. I was mad at her. I was not going to mope around about things. Well, now that she knew about Jacob and me... I had the freedom to whatever I wanted. And since she posted the sex tape online like an immature and idiotic person would, I had every right to be mad at her. It's not my fault that Jacob liked me and not her. And it's not my fault that they didn't have chemistry. Stacey was no classified as an enemy. If she was gonna spill about Jacob and me... fine. But, why should she spill a lie? How about letting her spill the truth? Just one more time, enforcing the truth. Just to make life a bit easier for her. I wiped my eyes.
"How to I look?" I asked.
"Hot," he said, standing up from the garbage can.
"Are you mad at Stacey?" I asked.
"Yeah," he said, "pretty pissed."
"Good," I said.
He looked at my expression. And he knew what was on my mind.
"You know, Jakey," I said, "sex is like...texting. You could do it anywhere, anytime, with anyone."
"You wanna take revenge on Stacey, huh? You'll just be... making the truth... more true."
"It'll remove one sin she's comitting or will commit."
"Ok," he said, "let's text."
I nodded. He shrugged. I slipped off my shirt, wrapping my legs around his waist and kissed him. My hands held to his face as he slipped off my shorts. I kissed him hard, hearing the garbage can fall behind him.
