Knock, knock, knock.
The sound was monotonous on the heavy front door, but still I turned over, covered my head with the pillow and ignored it. My parents were away for the weekend on a trip to buy some more lifestock.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
The sound was louder now, and more distinct, I couldn't ignore it anymore. Forcing myself to get up, I fumbled for my slippers and thudded down the stairs.
"Who is it?" I tentatively asked, there were not many houses around here and we rarely got members of the public knocking on our door, especially at midnight.
"Erm...hi? I'm Zack" he stopped as if this was all that I needed to hear.
"Well, Zack, What do you want? It's just after midnight you know."
"Really?" He sounded surprised, like he couldn't believe it. "I've been walking for four hours? Anyway, the point is I broke down...somewhere and I have no way of getting to the airport or any money, it started raining as soon as I started walking and hasn't stopped since and I had to walk throught many fields and I'm very muddy. Could I please come in to warm and clean myself up?"
"How do I know you're not a rapist?" I asked stupidly, even if he was, he wouldn't tell me.
"You'll just have to trust me."
I don't know why, but I let him in. It would have been rude not to. I mean, he'd been out in the rain for four hours, he could catch pneumonia if he was out there any longer so I ran upstairs, grabbed a towel and handed it to him when I finally opened the door.
"Thank you," he said as I led him into the living room where I put the fire on to warm him up. I also put the kettle on and made him a hot chocolate and myself a coffee, I needed the perk to be honest. "I don't want to make you uncomfortable or sound cheeky but do you think I could sleep here until I can ring my mom in the morning?"
"Well..." I started, "I don't know becuase my parents aren't home and I don't know you. I shouldn't have even let you in." This was so unlike me.
"I know it's a lot to ask but if you can, we'll stay up all night and you can keep an eye on me at all times, I promise." he pleaded with me. He stared at me with a puppy dog expression on his face and I just couldn't resist, "Fine."
