Ever had that feeling when your head swirls, your heart rate picks up and you feel really dizzy? That just happened to me. I looked at Jake blinking, wordless, awestruck.
“Me?” I asked,
“No the other Jade Piper that I’m in love with,” he grinned. I stared at him as another clap of thunder sounded right above us, then I sighed,
“I’m sixteen Jake; I don’t think it’s even legal.” I said blankly,
“Yeah, yeah it is. You just need your parent’s permission…” he trailed off and then slapped his own forehead, “Crap.” He said.
“It’s okay, I still love you.” I smiled; he squeezed my arm and then looked into my eyes,
“May I rephrase my sentence?” he asked, I nodded, “Will you wear this ring as a sign of belonging to me and I to you?” he passed the ring over to me. I looked at it, it was beautiful but there was a vacant hole in the middle. “Before you ask, I’ve left that empty because I wanted to know what stone you’d like in it. I was thinking a ruby because that was your Atlantis stone, but then I thought your name was Jade, so a jade would be a good idea. Or a sapphire, that was my stone, I’m willing to go even further and get you a huge diamond, whatever makes you happy.”
“I haven’t even said yes yet.” I muttered, the electrifying lightning flashed right in front of us.
“I know you’re going to,” he grinned.
“You know me too well,” I said leaning in and kissing him, he pulled back and slid the ring onto my finger,
“Perfect fit,” he grinned as I leaned in for another kiss, our lips met and my mind was filled with nothing but Jake. His hands tightened around my back and he pulled me closer, his whole body pressed against mine and I moved my hands towards his head running my fingers through his thick hair. The thunder sounded slightly further off, the storm was passing, our lips moved in synchronisation and Jake’s sweet breath swirled around in my head. I was caught up in the moment, I couldn’t remember where I was, I couldn’t remember what time it was, I couldn’t even remember my name. The one thing I was certain of was that I loved him. His lips were so soft and his arms so strong, he pulled me even closer to him and our bodies were pressed against each other. I felt something land on my leg, and then another on my head, it had begun to rain. Within a few seconds the rain was pouring down on us, but we still lay there, caught up in each other. Suddenly Jake pulled away,
“You’re going to catch a death, you’re only wearing a vest and shorts,” he grinned and helped me up. I checked the ring was still on my finger and sighed in relief; Jake took my hand and looked at the ring. “Beautiful, just like you,” he smiled, I blushed but he probably couldn’t see through the rain, I wasn’t even cold. Jake kissed me once more and then pulled me back towards the house. “Well this evening has been memorable,” he grinned as we opened the door, Max was standing there with his arms crossed. When he saw us he breathed out slowly through his nose in mock anger,
“Okay Jade I expected it of you, but Jake!” he acted upset, “I thought better of you,” he said,
“Sorry,” Jake said quietly playing along,
“You could have at least told me where you were, I know I’m just a few years older than you but treat me in these circumstances like I’m Jade’s dad.”
“Sorry Dad,” I giggled,
“Mr Piper,” Jake said bringing my hand up to his chest, “I was very much hoping for your consent, we’ve been thinking about the future, I’ve asked your daughter… well sister… to marry me,” Max began to laugh,
“Oh Jake, you do crack me up,” he cried bending over in hysterics,
“I’m serious,” Max stood up and leaned against the wall,
“Really? You’re only sixteen!”
“Almost seventeen, but not now, like I said, in the future. When we’ve been through school, college, university, whatever you want to call it.” Jake said,
“I’m not giving my consent now, or ever even. You’re going to have to wait until your eighteen, you’re just high on love. Why would you even be thinking about marriage at your age?” Max said,
“Your consent wouldn’t be verified anyway,” I muttered, “Well if we’re high on love we’ve been high for as long as we’ve known each other, but we’re not going to go off and get married tomorrow,” I offered,
“We’re just thinking about the future, planning ahead,” Jake smiled, “In the mean time; we’ll just love each other.”
“Agreed.” I said pecking him on the lips,
“You’re soaked,” Max said looking at us, “Seriously though Jake what were you doing outside with her?” Max trailed off, “No! Don’t answer that,” he said shaking his head as if he were trying to get a horrid picture out his head. “Oh Jade, come here.” Max held out his arms and then pulled me into a hug; he rested his chin on my head. “I remember when you were five, you used to play bride and groom, you always asked me to be the groom. Now look at you, you’re sixteen and getting married, you’ve grown up so fast!” I pulled away,
“I’m not getting married any time soon!” I objected, “But you too! You have a job! You can drive…”
“I get it,” Max smiled, “just don’t grow up any faster,” he warned,
“So no getting pregnant or anything, I’m not ready to be an uncle!” I rolled my eyes and went back to Jake,
“No problem, we’re not going to see each other for ages anyway,”
“Plus I’m all old fashioned anyway,” Jake said. I smiled at Max, we’d put across a good argument,
“Good. That’s what I want to hear, it’s just a normal teenage crush, no getting married please,”
“The ring merely signifies that Jade belongs to me,” Jake stopped, “so basically she’s my slave,” he grinned,
“Could I give her one then? I’ve always wanted a slave.” Max joked, I hit him playfully,
“Being serious, it basically means we’re bound together, we love each other and we want to spend our future together. I don’t think either of us are ready to get married.” Jake explained. There was an awkward silence,
“Okay, I’m going to get a shower, I’m soaked,” I said heading for the stairs,
“I’m right behind you,” Jake called.
