The ship is actually on the hunt for notoriously nocturnal mermaids

The mermaid never resurfaced. Sara felt an odd sense of disappointed abandonment as she stared into the dark and strangely calm waters. That strange fish girl saved her life and had the sort of personality that Sara enjoyed. Sara sighed, laid back in the boat, and wrapped her wet jacket around her for warmth as she waited for the vessel to reach her.

Where am I? How did I get here? Sara thought as she shivered. Wait, where did I come from? Sara's heartbeat quickened in panic as she realized she hardly remembered anything before the doorways.

"Oh no, ohhhhhh no." Sara moaned. She began reciting the information her parents drilled into her when she was young in case she got lost. "My name is Sara Parks. I live at 6473 Walnut... My phone number is... Oh, nooooo." She buried her face in her knees and sobbed for her lost memory.

Her small dinghy shook as the the large ship drew closer. "HELLO, STRANDED INDIVIDUAL. WE ARE GIVING YOU AN OPPORTUNITY TO BOARD OUR VESSEL AND BE RESCUED. PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT IF YOU ARE HOSTILE, YOU WILL IMMEDIATELY BE THROWN OFF THE BOAT VIA THE PLANK." a booming male voice shouted.

Sara removed her head from her knees and wiped her eyes of the vision blurring tears just as a rope ladder was dropped a few feet from her. How had the ship gotten so close to her so fast? Sara stood and grabbed onto to the ladder, pushed herself out of her tiny boat, and began climbing up the side of the huge ship. It was going to be a long climb up, she realized as she looked to the top.

Halfway up, her arms began to burn and she began berating herself for all the times she sat  on her laptop instead of working out. Why didn't she care more about her physical fitness? Looking up once again to check her progress she saw a head watching her progress.

"YOU'RE VERY SLOW." the voice observed. "ARE YOU ILL OR INJURED?"

"I'm a nineteen year old girl with almost no upper body strength who is currently at risk for hypothermia. Sorry, I'm not up to your standards!"

"IT'S A WOMAN!" the voice screamed. On the ship, more loud male voices began to shout excitedly.

Suddenly, Sara wasn't sure if she were being rescued.

The End
