A few hours later, Tessa was able to leave. Getting back to work wasn’t difficult. It was what had happened that had her so distracted. Sometimes, when she stopped doing something, she thought about it for a second, and realized with great shock that it was real.

Ian was real.

He knew about Elise.

How was any of this possible?

Tessa ran her hands through her blond hair and sighed. She couldn’t see straight for the moment so she decided to lie down on the couch. Thank God for small miracles of furniture in an office. As soon as she laced her head down, there was a knock on the door.

“Tessa,” a voice mumbled from the other side. “I need to talk to you. Open up.”

She practically threw open the door. Seeing him made her heart ache. She wanted to be closer to him now. The words were there but she couldn’t say them aloud. He closed the door, and the distance between them, and kissed her. One hand tangled in her hair, the other wrapped around her waist, pulling her closer.

“Are you okay?” he whispered, kissing her jaw. He wrapped both his arms around her waist and squeezed her. She made a tiny noise and he chuckled.

“I’m okay,” she assured him. She rested her head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat.

“I think this is would feel better if we lay down,” he said. He reached backward and locked the door, then proceeded to the couch. He pulled Tessa onto his lap and his lips found hers again.

Alex’s lips and tongue tasted of hazelnut coffee and something sweet. Tessa also breathed in the scent of his aftershave and cologne, her fingers gripping his shoulders so much that he let out a moan.

When she slid to straddle his lap, he put his hands on her thighs and slid them up, his fingers cold against the warm flesh of her stomach.

“That’s not nice,” she murmured, staring into his face.

“No?” He smirked. “Well neither is you holding out on me.”

Tessa frowned. “I wasn’t holding out on you,” she said. “I told you I didn’t want anything romantic.”

“Mm.” Alex let his lips skim her neck. “And what now?”

Tessa closed her eyes as she kissed him, and she prayed that no one needed her for the next hour or so.

The End
