Mickey picked up his phone. It was Amber. I was there in the room listening to the radio and singing loudly. I had a flyer in my hand and I read it over and over again.

Cheesy. But I love to dance and I love fancy pretty dresses. I smiled to myself. Mickey hung up on the phone.
"Hey," I said, "did you see this?" I chewed my bubble gum and showed him the flyer. Mickey was silent and didn't talk.
"Mickey?" He looked at me.
"Well... first of all, Amber broke up with me. Second, she's... uh... pregnant. Obviously, with someone else's baby. And third, that's the reason she broke up with me. Because we never had sex and because she's pregnant."
"Do you know who?"
Wow, she told him everything. Mickey didn't speak.
"Aww, baby," I said hugging him, "it's ok."
Mickey held onto me. This time, I comforted him. He laid down in my lap, texting Jordan on his cell phone. He didn't seem all that sad.
"Mickey," I asked, "so, are you mad?"
I slapped him in the forehead.
"Actually, not really. I don't know why... but I'm not all that much. I wasn't feeling it for her anymore."
I smiled. I needed to tell him I knew about this.
"Hey, Mickey," I said in a cutesy voice.
"Yeah?" he said in a cutesy voice back.
I talked normal again.
"Um... I kinda knew about... Amber going to Adam's house. I mean, I only didn't tell you because... I didn't wanna hurt you."
Mickey lifted his head from my lap. Mickey put his hand on my cheek and put a loose strand of my auburn hair behind my ear.
"I heard everything that day outside of school. I didn't wanna say anything. I knew it was gonna be this way."
"Did you happen to hear anything I said?"
He nodded, smiling.
I looked down. He lifted my head up again.
"Melanie Brown, would you come to Prom with me?"
"So you did see the flyer!"
He raised his eyebrows and smiled.
"Yes," I said smiling.
