Chapter Sixteen (Part 16)

Lea released the breath she had been holding, visibly relaxing. Mom pleased with my answer gave me a bone-crushing hug before saying she and dad had to go talk to a few others about the big news. I nodded, and grinned at her. Just before leaving, Dad reached over and gave me a kiss on the forehead, then whispered just so I could hear, “You and I are going to have a talk later about this boy, alright?”

Although no one else heard what he said, the undeniable blush that rose up in my cheeks didn’t go unnoticed by Jensen or Lea.

“I’m so dead,” Jensen stated in a dead-pan voice that made Lea and I burst out into laughter.

“You’ll be fine. Although, I suggest you wear bullet-proof jackets when you visit us at our house,” Lea said with a wink at Jensen who paled instantly. “I hope it’s a boy, by the way.”

I couldn’t help but grin at her. “Me too. It would be nice to have a little brother.”

“Are you sure you’re okay with all this though? You looked like you’d been bonked over the head with a frying-pan when mom announced it.”

“It was not what I was expecting Lea, but I’m not unhappy about it. It’s still sinking in that we’re going to have an addition to the family, just give it time. I’m sure I’ll be screaming in happiness and skipping around like a...well, like you tomorrow.”

Lea seemed rather satisfied with my answer. Running her hands through her curls, she bopped an ‘okay’ at me with her head. Jet smiled over her shoulder, gave Jensen and I the peace sign, before leaving us as they both walked away.

“So...are you feeling better now?”

I turned to Jensen, my heart starting to race again as I saw the way he was looking at me; so caring and warm. “Um, yeah. I feel okay. I’m sorry about throwing up on you.”
“It’s fine.” He waved the matter aside, taking my hand and leading the way. “Jet’s the guy for emergencies; he has his contacts for getting spare suits you know.”

Jet having gotten to know most of my family over the several reunions he had attended was comfortable enough to ask someone for a spare suit. In the end, Uncle Tony had been just the guy.
