Chapter 8Mature

I woke up from a horrible dream. It was only 7 in the morning. I couldn't go back to sleep. I slowly walked out of my room and upstairs to Bruno's room. He was there sleeping with Summer. Nick was awake reading a book, his glasses on. He saw me.

"What are you doing up?" he asked. He invited me in.

"I couldn't sleep."

"Me either."

"So, when are you, Bruno, and Summer going back to the University?"

"2 more weeks. Why, you wanna get rid of us?"

"No! I was just asking!"

He smiled. Nick was quiet.

"Bruno and Summer are thinking of buying an apartment."

"Cool, where?"

"Well, in Oklahoma, near the college."

"What about you?"

"Well, the neighbor's daughter, Sofie, she's Sam's age and she's coming with me 'cause she applied for the same University."

Nick hugged me and I walked out of the room. I walked down the stairs, onto the second floor, into my room. I sat cross legged on my bed in the center of the room. The dark red, gold, and brown sheets were soft. I smiled, even though my sister had some major problems. I opened a book and started to read. It was about 11:00 when Mickey came in my room. He hugged me.

"Are you ok?"

I nodded.

"Is Sam?"

I shrugged. I closed my book and laid down on my bed. Mickey laid down beside me and we stared into each other's eyes. He smiled.

"Everything's gonna be ok."

I smiled. He placed his hand on my cheek and rubbed it with his warm thumb. I came toward him and kissed him. We stared at each other for a minute and soon he pulled me toward him and he kissed me intimately, our bodies pressed together, the AC blowing on us overhead. My fingers twisting in his black hair. Our feet touched. Until someone knocked on my door.

"Who is it?"

Mickey went to go wait on the balcony. I opened the door.

"You look horrible," I said.

"Thanks," she croaked.

She smelled  horrible.

"Mel, I gotta quit. It's killing me," she said.

"That's what I've been saying!"

"I know. But I'm hooked. I threw out all my packs, all the cans, but it's like I need them."

"No you don't. Don't think about it. At all."

She smiled. Her teeth were turning yellow, but it hadn't gone too far.

"Okay," she said and she walked out of my room. Mickey came back in.

"She might quit."

He smiled and kissed me.
