Hunted - Chapter SevenMature

Chapter Seven – Case

The moment the blast off I ran to the newest shelter I could find, So here I am, cowering in some storeroom, talk about deja vu, if a zombie appears I'm going to shoot it so fast that -

“Hey” I yelped and turned my gun towards the source, and didn't pull the trigger.

“Chris?” I almost whispered, definitely not believing this.

“You can shoot me if you want, won't actually do anything, I'm just a double...this is the only way I can actually speak to you” He said with a shrug.

“Okay, that's kinda creepy and messed up” I said, lowering the gun, “Am I allowed to ask where the real you is?”

“Depends, are you going to aim that gun at me if I do?” he said, sitting down cross-legged.

“That's not fair, I was scared then...” I said, wrapping my arms around my knees.

“Why did you never tell your mum when you saw me?” he asked

“Because, part of me wished it wasn't....its easy to kill a zombie when its a stranger” I said.

“I want to know how he does it”

“How who does what?” I said, confused.

“The new guy, how does he avoid having to eat humans?” Chris said

“Erm..he avoids it cause he's human?” I said, raising an eyebrow at him, maybe becoming a zombie messed with his sanity a bit.

“No, that's just his ability, he can appear human, he's as undead as I am” Chris said

“What? That's ridiculous!” I said

“Really, cause Lucinda found him last night to confirm he was zombie, she was going to recruit him” he said, playing with the dust on the floor with one finger.

“Did she...recruit him I mean?” I asked

“I don't know, she was mad as hell when she returned so I figure he told her to piss off. He knows a way to not have to eat humans, and I want to know as well” he said, meeting my gaze.

I knew what I was about to suggest was madness, and my mum would never forgive me, but I wanted to help Chris so much.

“Seth dear, don't be silly, you think you've won that easily?” I froze mid-step. Lucinda stood in front of me, tall and powerful. Her knife sharp feature distorted in something between a grin, glare and grimace.

“It's three against one, face it, you've lost Luci” I said, not even bothering to look her way.

“Two are human” she yelled, forcing me to look her way by grabbing my arm, “And humans can be burnt to a crisp with a flick of my finger boy, and after that there’s only you, and trust me, your no threat to me. I will destroy you, I will break every bone in your body and rip off your limbs, and you will still live, live with constant pain, and I will never put you out of your misery! you pathetic excuse for zombie!” She took a step towards, a scary light in her eye and flames already licking in her palms. Then her eyes turned blank and the fire disappeared, she slumped to the ground and behind her stood Rachel, the rock still held up in her bloody hands.

“Bitch” she said, before beginning to fall. I caught her and the smell of her blood was overpowering. Somehow she had managed to survive, but she didn't get through it without a lot of cuts. She had lost a lot of blood.

“Let's go” I said, dragging her to the van, I placed her in the passenger seat and got into the drivers side, hoping I had been able to drive before I died.

“What about Case, we still don't-” Mary started

“I'm fine!, just hid the moment things got bad” Case appeared from the back of the van, she gave a nervous laugh then ran to the landrover. I caught Eddie glancing a suspicious look my way. Mary hadn't noticed what Luci had said, but I think he did. Hopefully odd looks is all he planned on doing about it.
