Human no Longer - XMature

The entry didn’t end there, but closed with the words, Goodbye, Olivia. The letters are misshapen, the tail on the A drifting to the bottom of the page.

I look out the glass at the clouds below me, their white blanket covering the sores of the earth below.

He’d found his peace, then, and shortly after, died.

I poke the sleeping man with my foot, and he stirs awake.

“What?” he growls.

“Do you have a pen I could use?”

He grunts before fishing one out of a pocket, and then tosses it at me.

“Now let me sleep, kid.”

With that, he dozes off once more.

Pen in hand, I flip the page over to a blank sheet, clean but for the blood and tears that stain it.

October 18th, 2009

My name is Declan Hunt, and I’ve never met Olivia Penn nor her love, Levi.

I found this journal today under a man’s corpse, his body unmarked by the creature that knelt beside him. The former woman that knelt beside him.

I killed her so she wouldn’t kill me.

In this, I might have corrected at least of one of Levi’s failings.

Had he held on for one more day, he could have been sitting beside me in this helicopter, on his way back to the real world. I don’t know if he would have taken the chance, though: I don’t think he could’ve been able to cope with humanity.

I don’t know if I can cope with humanity.

My name is Declan Hunt, and I survived, somehow.

The End
