I find Gracie at her locker, packing up her backpack for studying tonight. I sneak up behind her and cover her eyes.
“Guess who?” I say in my best SpongeBob impression. She laughs and turns around. I can’t help but smile like crazy at the sight of the grin on her face. She also looks fabulous today, with her hair looking so beautiful with her messy curls and her outfit looks particularly cute.
She gives me a worried look and stares back at me. I gaze into her baby blue eyes and fall deeper and deeper into them.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” she asked cautiously as she stepped back a little. I shake my head and blink a few times. What was I doing?
“Nothing, I just wanted to ask you if you wanted to hang out tonight since Kylie is babysitting her baby cousin. Want to go see a movie tonight?” Gracie looks relived and says sure. I link my arm through hers and we walk off to the gym, where we have a secret exit. Just so we can escape the earsplitting crowd. Gracie and I chat and laugh on the way home. While talking, she brings up an interesting topic.
“So, my birthday is coming up at the end of the month. What should I do for the party?” she grins at me, knowing all too well that she’ll be inviting the whole grade to her big birthday party. I think about it and suggest the first thing that comes to my mind.
“Invite a few close friends, order in three large cheesy pizza’s and rent a lot of scary, romantic , funny movies!” she gives me a weird look that says I’m crazy.
“But I can’t feed the entire senior class with just three pizzas.” She gives me a totally pathetic innocent look. I tilt my head and raise my eyebrows at her. She laughs and we hurry our way to her house.
After what seems way too short we make it to her front door. I know I have to check in with my family before going anywhere so we say our goodbyes.
“Thanks for walking me home Jayden. See you later.” And uncertainly, leans in and gives me a huge hug. I feel like my heart could explode for some reason.
“Yeah, see you.” I walk away but look back at her. She’s still gazing at me. I smile and continue walking to my house. Nothing better then a best friend hugs. Though I wish it were more.
Wait did I just say that? Oh crap. Get this through your thick head Jayden! You are going out with Kylie, a great girl and you aren’t going to start getting attached with Gracie. She is your friend. Your best friend actually…
