When dinner time in the Rasmen-Philophee house began, I sat in my seat, not saying one word. When the food was served, I bowed my head, folded my hands, and listened to my step father say grace. "Oh, dear, heavenly father, please bless every person at this dinner table, and bless the food we are about to eat. We give thanks that we have this wonderful meal on this warm, delightful evening. Amen," he said.
"So, Maecie, have you talked to Kevin lately?" Kirsten asked.
"No, I have not," I said quietly.
"And why not? You afraid he's going to be mad about the whole 'fourth cousin' thing?" Kirsten smiled the most wicked smile.
"He knows about that already, thank you," I said politely.
"Oh, well you better not kiss him again, because that is just nasty! I mean, who kisses their own cousin? You...you... COUSIN KISSER!" Kirsten said. "Cousin kisser, cousin kisser, cousin kisser..." she repeated over and over until I snapped!
"Shut up! You have no idea how embarrassing enough it is to know that the guy I've fallen hardest for is my cousin! So just shut up! All of you! I can't take this any more! I sick of you all! Just stop it!" I ran upstairs and into my bedroom, leaving my family speechless at the kitchen table.
The entire year of 2009 has been nothing but one big nightmare for me. All of the drama at school, the pressure of being half as good as Kirsten and living up to the Philophee name. I was tired of it, all of it! I couldn't believe my family, my own family, would sink as low as those snobby girls I was forced to go to school with every single day since second grade! I was done! It was time to act, and I had to do it now, or I will be living like this the rest of my life!
I went into the bathroom, and started up the water. I put the little white plug thing into the drain. I watched as the water filled up. The water was so boiling hot, I could see the steam coming up from out of the tub. I opened the medicince cabinet and found a bottle of sleeping pills. I took off all my clothing, and got into the bioling water. I dumped the entire bottle of pills into my hand. I had a cold bottle of water sititng on the edge of the tub. Right as I grabbed for it, my phone began to ring. I looked at the caller ID; it was Savanna.
"Hello, darling," I said as I answered the phone.
"Hi, Maecie," my baby sister said back to me. Nicolette and Savanna have the same mother, therefore, they live together.
"What are you still doing up? It's past your bedtime," I said to her.
"I couldn't sleep. When you were over here earlier, I didn't say 'I love you' before you left, so I called to say I LOVE YOU, MAECIE!" Savanna said to me.
I burst into tears, "I love you, too, Savanna," I said.
"I guess I should get going off to bed now, goodnight, Maecie!"
"Goodnight, my dear," I said. I looked at the pills in my hand. I grabbed the bottle they belonged in, and put them all back.
