I staggered back out the door, clutching my stomach. I felt like I was about to be sick. I collapsed at the top of the stairs wretching at the sight of Isabel's dead body.
'This is what happens when you don't listen to me.' Finn was stroking my hair trying to calm me down. 'I need to talk to Miss Bradshaw about this.'
'You're not leaving me behind!' Finn looked shocked at the suggestion.
'Of course not. You're coming with me.' He took my hand and pulled me to my feet. 'Do you think you can go back in? There's no other way to her office.' I took a deep breath and nodded. I kept my eyes fixed on the floor as we went around Isabel's body and up the stairs.
Why did it have to be her? She had been so nice to me and was incapable of hurting anyone, so why would someone want to kill her? Finn knocked on Miss Bradshaw's office and opened the door before there was an answer.
Even though it was the early hours of the morning Miss Bradshaw was still sitting at her desk working.
'Oh there you are!' She stood up from her table and marched over to us. 'How dare you so carelessly break school rules. You should know better Finn. When Louise came to tell me you were missing I was worried out of my mind...' She carried on in the same vein for about another five minutes, Finn trying to interuppt her to tell her about Isabel but not succeeding. 'Do you have anything to say for yourselves?'
'I think there is something you should see Helen.' Finn pointed at the door. 'Follow me.' He walked out still holding my hand.
'How dare you walk away when I'm talking to you. Get back here Finn, Stephanie stop.' Miss Bradshaw followed us down the hall and down the stairs, still shouting at us. I was sure she would wake the whole school, her voice was so loud.
But it wasn't as loud as the scream that came from her mouth when she saw Isabel. That truely did bring the whole school running and chaos descended. Some of the teachers stood frozen for a moment as they saw the body before trying to move the students away. Jenny was one of the first there and was immediately at Finn's side.
'This is it isn't it?' She whispered 'It's beginning.'
'What's beginning?' There was something they weren't telling the rest of us. 'What is this Finn?' There was a roar as Chase made it to Isabel's body and collapsed on the ground, tears streaming down his face. I didn't think twice before going over to his and wrapping my arms around him, rocking his shaking body like a baby and whispering in his ear. 'Shh everything's going to be OK.'
'How is that? Can't you read they're coming for us, all of us!' He yelled at the group of students and teachers assembled behind us. 'We're all going to die.'
