Hound for Hiremature

Recommend

"I call to thee, oh spirit of enchantment

I call to thee this token of sacrifice

As it will serve as a home and sanctuary for you.

You will find a friend of loyal and true blood in me, and I in you.

I call you and will that you be bound to this token

You are welcomed and cherished forever

You are beckoned as you are the true answer…."

Many a time have I heard that familiar invocation, but never once have I been bound to a human that has called upon us. I have watched hound after hound travel from the pit of Hell, to the Earthen world. The hounds would return after quite some time, serving as a protector, or as a source of companionship for a lonely soul. I never saw the appeal of traveling to the human world; sure, I have walked among the humans numerous times, but all of those times, I had been given a task. To retrieve souls.

And all of those times, I was never impressed. They are a raucous, ignorant bunch. Their civilization has evolved greatly over time, with all of the technological advances…I have been witness to them all. I watched empires rise, fall, start anew under new leadership, and repeat the process. The only thing intriguing about the humans, is their thirst for blood. It's incredible how many wars they start.

But now, the invocation has been spoken, and the one calling for a hound is a most interesting creature. Dead, but not alive. Human, although not entirely.

A vampire.

Now this has caught my attention. I stepped forth and offered myself to the creature, appearing in their realm within seconds. I shifted into my human form. It tends to put people at ease, seeing one of their own kind. It shouldn't matter now, though, appearing as a human. But I can sense there are multiple people with the one who called. The vampire should be able to see me, but if there happen to be humans with them, they will not see me.

The vampire scooted backward and sat upon the edge of his desk . His blonde brow arched quizzically as he eyed me. I glanced downward at my body; naked, unlike the others in this room. I need to acquire clothing while I am on this plane. The female beside him, vampire also I assume, scoffed and rolled her heavily made up eyes at me. I flashed a pair of fangs.

"Relax, hound." the man spoke, his voice calm.

I retracted my fangs and raised an eyebrow at the man. "Well. What have you called upon me for?" my voice came out raspy. I cleared my throat. "I apologize. It has been a long time since I have spoken."

"It's fine. I have a job for you."

"Oh?" I stepped forward. "What is it?"

"I need protection." the man said plainly.

"We need protection." another man stepped forward. Dark haired, and fierce looking. A small blonde woman clung to his side.

The blonde ignored him. "Vampires have been disappearing lately, and I fear that I-we may be targets. Will you help me?"

I sighed. "It seems I have no choice. I am already bound to you."

He looked confused.

"The vessel." I pointed to the stone sitting on the corner of the desk. "When you performed the invocation, you bound me to the vessel. I belong to you until you set me free, vampire."

"Well isn't that interesting." he remarked, a smirk forming on his pale lips.

"Interesting indeed.." I muttered. "Shall I return to the vessel?"

"No. You can stay out. But, we'll need to get you clothed." he stared at my body.

"No need for that…I can shift back into my normal form. Clothes won't be necessary."

I suppose I do need them, especially if I am to fit in here.

"Are you sure?"

I shrugged. "I might as well have clothes."

"Go get her a t-shirt." he ordered. The female vampire left the room.

The room became silent once she had left. The three that remained in the room stared at me curiously. None seemed to trust me beside the one that had called for me. They were skeptical of my presence, given the negative fables and legends surrounding the Hell Hounds. I felt the urge to reassure them, but words can only do so much.

I suppose I will have to show them I can be trusted.
