Both of them heard the crash from the bathroom and both moved at the same time running towards the bathroom.
“Deacon?” Dawn called through the door.
“Ow” came the reply.
“Do you want some help?” Dawn asked
“Yes please” Deacon mumbled and Dawn opened the door to see the small daemon wrapped up in the torn down curtain from the shower. Dawn bent down and picked him up curtain and all and carried him out of the bathroom.
“What happened?” Gabriel asked as he grabbed one of the large towels from the bathroom Dawn wrapped Deacon up and removed the plastic curtain from around him.
“I fell and now we have a little problem” Deacon said wincing. “My clothes are ruined”
“Surely they're wearable?” Dawn asked.
“They’re covered in blood and they're soaked where I fell on them”
“You’re sharing with Sylver aren’t you?” Gabriel asked Deacon nodded and Gabriel moved to the door pulling it open he was shocked to see Sylver standing in the corridor a bag in his hand.
“No need to shout” Sylver said
“I didn’t” Gabriel frowned
“you did right in the middle of my head you shouted that Deacon needed his bag” Gabriel shut the door.
“I didn’t know I could do that” he said.
“Neither did I” Sylver said silently to Gabriel.
“Maybe both of you have a new ability” Dawn smiled
“Maybe” Sylver said handing the bag to Deacon. “Are you alright?” he asked the daemon Deacon nodded.
“I’ll be fine” he said quietly.
“What happened?” Sylver questioned sitting down on the bed Deacon flushed slightly.
“I got jumped” he mumbled.
“It’s nothing to be embarrassed about” Dawn said searching the pockets of Deacon's ruined jeans he pulled a small box out. “Stitches before clothes Deacon.”
“I'm fine sire” Deacon said then he shook his head, “sorry Dawn” he corrected.
“It’s alright” Dawn said threading one of the needles he heated it with his lighter to sterilise it then moved to Deacon.
“I don’t want stitches” Deacon grumbled.
“Tough” Dawn said “that one above your eye needs a few at least.”
“so Gabriel” Sylver said silently Gabriel moved to sit down “how are you and Dawn getting along after our little chat?”
“not badly” Gabriel saw Sylver wince as his voice echoed in his mind.
“No need to shout lower your voice a little” Sylver said he watched the first stitch go into Deacon's forehead and smiled slightly as the daemon wriggled and swore.
“Sorry” Gabriel said trying to keep his minds voice down “he keeps staring at me though” Gabriel saw Sylver smile.
“Of course he does” Sylver replied “he likes you”
“But why?” Gabriel frowned.
“I don’t know you'll have to ask him”
“I have and he skirts around it until we’re talking about something else”
“Then pin him down and make him answer” Sylver grinned.
“What are you smiling about?” Deacon asked as he closed his eyes tightly as the third stitch went in.
“Nothing” Sylver said he frowned slightly suspiciously at the red flush on Dawn's cheeks. “Dawn?” Sylver said the daemon looked up “anything wrong?” Dawn shook his head slightly.
“No” he said quickly Sylver frowned.
“So will you ask him why?” Sylver asked speaking silently again.
“I don’t know” Gabriel replied “to be honest I don’t really know if I want an answer”
“Because every vague answer I've had so far annoys me and I don’t really want to encourage him” Sylver heard Dawn's breath hitch.
“What is wrong with you?” the vampyre asked out loud.
“I'm fine” Dawn growled.
“You do know its rude to listen in to a private conversation” Sylver frowned.
“I can’t really help it when you two are yelling in my ear can I?” Dawn snapped carefully putting another stitch in Deacon's forehead.
“So how much did you hear?” Gabriel asked as Dawn got up and walked to the kitchen.
“Most of it” Dawn replied “you both blipped a little but the message was loud and clear”
“I think then” Sylver said standing up “I should get Deacon here to bed he looks like he needs sleep”
“But I want to see the fight later” Deacon protested pulling a clean pair of jeans on.
“You can if you get some rest and don’t get into anymore fights” Sylver said smiling he helped Deacon pull a t-shirt on.
“I’ll give you a hand if you want” Gabriel said.
“No” Sylver said “you and Dawn should talk properly now that he knows the problem and remember what I said about shouting” Gabriel sighed and nodded Sylver smiled and closed the door.
“You don’t have to talk to me” Dawn said setting a coffee down on the bedside table he sat down on the bed.
“Dawn I'm sorry for what I said.” Gabriel sighed.
“No you're not” Dawn said not looking around at the vampyre “its true”
“It doesn’t stop me being sorry” Dawn looked up at him.
“I'm the one who should be sorry” Dawn said sadly “every time you're nice to me or you let me near you I end up pushing too hard and you shut down again”
“I know” Gabriel said “I can’t help it”
“I know” Dawn smiled “but for some reason it doesn’t stop me doing it. I don’t mean to push you”
“Yes you do” Gabriel smiled slightly “you wonder how far you can get”
“I never told you that” the daemon frowned.
“I sort of worked it out and you talk in your sleep” Gabriel said Dawn's eyes widened almost comically.
“I do?” he asked Gabriel nodded.
“Dawn, can I ask you something?”
“Okay” Dawn said “only if you promise not to shout or punch me or anything”
“I wont if you answer” Gabriel smiled Dawn nodded. “What do you want from me?” Gabriel asked lighting a cigarette.
“I think I've answered that one before” Dawn frowned “but I don’t want anything from you”
“You have answered that before but we were shouting, you were drunk and my memory’s crap” Dawn laughed.
“So are we asking questions now?” Gabriel nodded “okay, so what can I do with you?”
“I don’t understand” Gabriel frowned.
“Can I hug you?”
“What right now?” Gabriel asked Dawn laughed again.
“In general” he smiled Gabriel shrugged.
“I don’t know” he said Dawn finished his coffee and lit a cigarette.
“What am I allowed to do?”
“I don’t know Dawn” Gabriel said “what do you want to do?”
“You don’t want to ask me that” Dawn smiled unable to stop himself.
“Why not?” Gabriel asked Dawn looked at him seriously for a moment.
“I just don’t think you want to know” Dawn said carefully. “I don’t think I want to say it out loud” he added Gabriel smiled.
“Fair enough” he said “just warn me if you're going to do anything then” Dawn nodded and Gabriel smiled “I'm sorry for everything” he said after a few moments.
“For being a bastard mostly” Gabriel said Dawn laughed again.
“You’re always a bastard sweetie its one of the things I like”
“Dawn I made you cry” Gabriel said Dawn's cheeks went pink.
“More out of frustration than anything else” he said looking away from Gabriel.
“Dawn” Gabriel said the daemon looked up his blush darkening slightly. “I am sorry” Dawn shook his head.
“No I knew what would happen if I pushed you and I didn’t care”
“It’s not just that that’s made like I have been” Gabriel smiled laying back on the bed his hands behind his head his wings spread out around him. “Its this place, I don’t like it here” Gabriel said looking sideways at the daemon, Dawn shifted to look back at him and he smiled.
“I know you don’t like being closed in” Dawn said Gabriel frowned.
“It’s not just that” he said looking back at the ceiling.
“Then what?” Gabriel frowned harder and shook his head.
“I can’t explain it” he said
“Try” Dawn smiled
“There’s something about this place that’s strange”
“I know what you mean” Dawn sighed.
“Everyone’s too relaxed too…” Gabriel tried to find the right word.
“Decadent?” Dawn suggested Gabriel nodded.
“Yeah” he said quietly.
“Anyway” Dawn said brushing Gabriel's hair away from the vampyres face “unfortunately we do have more important things to do than this”
“I know” Gabriel sighed sitting up “I don’t think I'm really in the mood for an angry fight right now”
“Then do a cold calculating one” Dawn smiled “I like those better” Gabriel smiled at him.
“You’re a tart Dawn.” The daemon grinned.
