Tell the truth that you were too lazy.

Your drowsy mind is too weak to hold up any pretense, and you mutter something groggy and incomprehensible about just being too tired.

"You did what?"

"Tired, Mom. Alarm's fine, just unplung him. Five minutes." You yawn.

Then your eyes pop open. You think you might have just admitted to your mother that none of your alarm clocks were ever broken.

It turns out you're right. You mother is a very, very smart lady. She is also a lady with no tolerance at all for laziness, and she comes up with an appropriate punishment for you.

For the remainder of the Spring semester, she signs you up for the prom committee. They meet every weekday morning in the auditorium, 40 minutes before school starts.

The End
