Desert

Many asked if I was happy after this event. I could have been, but there's also the chance that I wasn't...

The young girl started across the desert.

It hadn't always been this way: Dry, desolate, deserted, but for her that was all this place would ever be. I wondered to myself as I watched her how many times she had dreamed of a smooth throat that would never dry. It was probably a very foreign idea to her, but dreams always created the unthinkable.

As I watched her I couldn't help but smile at her down turned face. The way should stood showed strength and power, but as she looked down at the cracked river bed I could tell she knew she had been defeated.

Letting my eyes travel they found the remains of her people. Only a few dozen dead bodies. The people she had relied on to bring her the little water they could. Watching her I let the smile on my face show bright. Walking forward I touched her shoulder lightly. She looked up at me and that's when I noticed the tears in her eyes. She pleaded with me to bring back mommy and daddy, she cared not if she had water.

Stroking her tears away I turned her face to the sky, so she could see the heavens cry with her. Then like any angel I stepped back and went away. My power fading as the river filled with the lower want of the human.

The End
