Firstly, this has nothing to do with Harry Potter; I haven't read the series or seen the last 4 films. Secondly, this was inspired by a dream I had a while ago. Enjoy x
As she pursed her lips, the teacher declared, “Class, today we are grateful to have a new student joining us. Come on in now Juliet, don’t be shy.”
But she did not look shy at all, yet again Ms Edinburgh’s eyesight never seemed right, she even thought I was a boy once. Me Kristy Shortstick a boy! I'm actually quite tall for my age.
It was during a ‘get to know each other’ activity to make Juliet feel welcome that her boastful figure stood before my desk, inches from my face. This was not a pleasing sight, she was looking at the scraps of paper which had my favourite things written on. I wasn’t sure whether she liked them but she seemed to be showing some sort of interest. I wondered what she was thinking, nobody else seemed interested in frogs as much as I was, and I doubt that Juliet would be the first, apart from myself of course.
It seemed like she had been peering over my desk forever, that is until Ms Edinburgh told her to go back to her seat and Juliet let out a huge growl, quite bear-like too. Nonetheless, everyone was startled with shock, this new girl was definitely one to look out for.
I was sitting alone at recess, as I usually did, drawing my own species of frogs when Juliet approached out of nowhere. She grunted. Were those the only words she knew? I wondered if that was why she kept reading over my desk before. But then, “You like frogs.” She said rather calmly, to my surprise.
“Yes, quiet fascinating creatures I must say,” God I sound like such a nerd, but she didn’t seem to mind.
“Are there any frogs around here?”
“There is one place...” I was astonished by her curiosity.
“Can you show me?” Tilting her head slightly to the side.
“Umm, sure,” she smiled and left, not even a ‘thank you’ or ‘nice to meet you’. Strange girl.
The swamp which I was referring to with Juliet was not a favourable place, despite the delightful frogs. Not that I’d been there before. Although it was often displayed in art galleries; it was mysteriously dark, filled with old rubbish and filing cabinets. Yep, you heard me, my guess is that some sort of detective building used to be there, impossible as it seemed it wasn’t very far from town. I decided to go to the library to investigate.
So as you can tell I have strange passions, I also have three annoying sisters; one younger than myself and a father who I think is gay. I can’t say that I’m very fond of my family, but I don’t exactly hate them either. Yet it surprises me how people so related can have such opposite tastes. I enjoyed soft bluey music whilst my sisters danced to rock n’ roll, I watched documentaries while they watched Zac Efron films and I liked vegetarian while they favoured pork chops.
I’d like to say that the next day at school was ‘ordinary’ but it appeared as though Juliet’s dark purple eye shadowed eyes gazing at me had become ordinary, almost. So as you can guess school for me became rather uncomfortable, I felt like I had a stalker, yet why would anyone want to stalk me? I decided to ask her, “Why do you keep following me Juliet?”
She seemed shocked, “I dunno,” and shrugged. Well that makes a lot of sense, she must be hiding something. I have a feeling this may be more than the fascination of frogs.
