"Vesna, please be careful" Mike hastily takes the hydrochloric acid out of my hands before I drop it.
"Sorry..." I mutter.
"Are you alright?" he asks as we tidy away.
"Yeah. I'm fine" I smile and kiss him. He doesn't say anything for the rest of the lesson, but he watches me, worried, as I absently get on with writing down the conclusion to the experiment that I wasn't even paying attention to. The bell sounds like a background noise to me when it goes off. When everyone's outside or in the canteen, he pulls me into an empty classroom.
"Don't lie. It shows all over your face" he says. I look down. He comes over and hugs me. "You can tell me you know"
"I know. But... I can't tell you this. It's... private... I can't... I..." I burst into tears as I look into his worried eyes. The thought of giving him up... but if I had to take him away from his friends and family to keep him... then I would have to let him go. I would have to make him go. Because he wouldn't want to. He kisses my hair.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you" he whispers.
"No, it's not your fault. You didn't upset me" I tell him. He sigh and wipes my tears away.
"Come in. Let's go and find the others"
