Goodbye

Farewell.

The one word in the English language that people don't like saying, even though it isn't rude. The word that speaks of closed doors, echoes, graves and the tearing of a heart.

Goodbye.

Good? Why good? I'm not going to see you again - I'm not going to meet you any other day, so why good? And why 'bye'?

Why can we not bring ourselves to speak it?

Other words are like this. I just don't know why.
