Giving into Love: Life as NormalMature

It was almost winter break. Lin had been having mild treatments. She was not wanting to stop her school so she would go home for the weekend and do treatments and go back to school for the week. The weekend was coming up again and she made plans to stay at school for the weekend and go out with her friends.

Later that night her friends and she were loading up into the cars and heading to the clubs. She knew that when she got home she would begin more intense treatments. Pete and she were on the dance floor cutting up. As they were dancing Jordan came on to the floor and starting dancing with Lin. After dancing that night Pete and Lin left the club everyone else had already left hours ago. Pete drove them back to campus. Pete looked over to Lin, “I saw you on that floor with Jordan. You looked like you where having fun with that Cool- aid smile on your face.”

“Well you know that I have liked him since last year. Yea I liked it. I had fun it is what I needed. We are going out again tomorrow?”

“Yea and you should invite Jordan to go with us.”

“Pete you know I can’t ask Jordan to come out with us. This is our time and besides I don’t think that it would be a good idea to invite him.”

Pete was about to say something when Lin’s phone began to ring. “Hold on Pete my phone is going off. Hello.”

“Hello. Lin?”

“Yea, who is this? I don’t know this number.”

“This is Jordan. You gave me your number last year and well I decided this is a good time to use it. You have a minute?”

“Yea what’s up?”

“I wanted to know if we could talk when we get back to campus at the bell tower.”

“Yea that’s fine with me. Is everything ok?”

“Yea everything is fine Lin, I just need to talk to you. I’ll see you back at campus.”

“Ok see you then, I’ll call you when I’m back on campus.” She hung up the phone and looked at Pete. Pete looked at her. He could tell there was something wrong. “Lin was wrong?”

“Pete that was Jordan he said he wants to talk to me when we get back to campus. But I don’t know what for.”

“Well we’re going to get you there soon. Then you will know what he wants to talk to you about.”

Within 20 minutes they were back at campus Pete dropped Lin off at the bell tower. And went back to his apartment. After being there for 5 minutes Jordan showed up. He walked over and sat on the step next to her. “Wow well I wanted to talk to you. Um just let me say it and then you can tell me what you think about it.”

She stopped him, “Pete wanted me to ask you if you wanted to go out with us tomorrow?”

“Yea I would love to. Now for the reason I asked you here. I have wanted you to be my girl since last year and I just never had the nerve to ask to be. And after tonight I just had to ask you out because I’m wasting time and before you know it someone else will come in and ask you out and I’ll be kicking myself for not at least asking you. Would you go out with me on a date before we head home for break?” He stopped and looked at her hoping that she would give him a yes to his question.

Lin looked down at the ground not wanting to look at him when she gave him the answer. He lifted her chin up from the ground. She let out a heavy sigh. “Jordan I would love to go on a date with you.” He had a big smile on his face. “But.” With that but the smile on his face faded. “But this is not a good time in my life to be getting involved with someone.”

He looked at her, “Do you have a boyfriend?”

“Are you trying to just worry about school?”

“No.” She saw he was about to ask another question, she stopped him. “Don’t do this; it has nothing to do with you. If it were another place and time I would take the date but this is here now and I just can’t take the date.” She got up, now crying, and started walking toward her apartment. She looked at her phone and called Pete. Pete at her door waiting for her. “Lin what’s wrong what happened?” He took her into his arms.

“Pete he asked me out tonight.”

“That’s great! You have liked this man since last year.”

“Yea I have but this is not great Pete. What am I going home to do? What did I say that I gave up on? Pete why couldn’t he have asked last year. Pete I don’t want to fall for him and have him fall for me, not when the future is so unsure. Why did it have to be this weekend? Everything was going good I was getting myself ready for the next month and the treatments. I was ok with everything and now I have a reason to be mad. The look of hurt on his face when I said no.”

“Well why couldn’t you go on the dates and just see where it goes? You don’t have to fall in love with him.”

“And if I do or he does then what? Tell him that he fell for a dying girl.

“You don’t know that, don’t say that! You have to be positive.”

“Pete it’s just not fair I have waited so long for someone like him and now I can’t have him. It wouldn’t be fair for me to get involved with him. But this has been a long night lets go to bed.”

Pete spent the night on Lin’s couch.

The End
