One week later, all of the Maxwells, and all of the Larsons plus Stuart Doyle gathered at the Maxwell house in preparation for the graduation prom. Kyle, David and Stuart sat uncomfortably on the couch and arm chair. They were all wearing tuxedos.

"Whoever invented the tuxedo ought to be shot!"
David fidgeted uncomfortably.

"Then hung!" Stuart chimed in.

" Then stuffed into a wood chipper!" Kyle added for good measure.

"Yuck. That's a little drastic, don't you think?" Stuart grimaced.

"What? I hate this monkey suit! I wish Judy hadn't decided to get dressed here. We could have picked her up in the limo that we rented. At least I wouldn't have to sit around waiting for her." Kyle said defensively.

Colleen Maxwell all but skipped down the stairs with a big smile, and an even bigger camera. Barry maxwell met her at the bottom with another camera.

"Alright boys, stop your grumbling and listen up. the girls are ready, and they're going to come down one at a time. David, Emily is coming down first, and I want you to wait for her on the bottom step by the banister. You will give her the corsage, then Barry will take a picture from the couch . I'll take a picture from another angle by the door."

Colleen walked back and forth, explaining her instructions. She took David by the elbow and positioned him on the bottom step. She placed Barry a little distance away near the couch, and made sure the camera was set for a  close up.

"Joanie will come down next, and you will be waiting for her, Stuart. You will give her the corsage, and so on. Judy will come down last. You'll be waiting for her with the corsage, then we'll have a group shot."

Colleen kept checking her camera for angles and settings as she walked around the room and positioned everyone.

"Have you ever considered a career as a photographer, dear?" Barry commented.

colleen laughed and took her position by the door. Emily
appeared at the top in a floor length Cream coloured fine lace dress. It has peach taffeta underlining and small frills at the empire waist. The long sleeves are all lace.

Barely breathing, David whispers as his mouth drops open in awe.

"So beautiful..."

As Emily comes down the stairs, David stares at her with all the love in his heart glistening in his eyes. Their eyes meet as she reaches the step above him. It was this riveting moment in her life that Emily stopped worrying whether David loved her or not. He pinned a pink corsage on her shoulder and kissed her tenderly as they ignored the flashbulbs that went off all around them.

Colleen finally had to go and pull them away from the stairs so that Joanie could make her entrance. Joanie descended the stairs in a long sleeveless floral silk gown. Stuart is too shy too pin it on her at this point, so he just handed it to her.She carried it until her mom pinned it on for her.

When all of the mandatory pictures were taken, Kyle took his position at the bottom of the stairs. Emily and Joanie stood together whispering excitedly.

"Do you think Judy has any idea what is about to happen?"

Emily asked Joanie.

"Not a clue. I can't wait!"

Judy appeared at the top of the stairs in a long mint green satin gown. Kyle waits at the bottom. As she approached him, he fell to one knee and fished a small velvet box out of his pocket. He took her hand and looked up into her eyes.

"Judy, I love you more than anything else in the world. I want to spend the rest of my life making you happy. Will you marry me?"

Judy burst into tears and with an overcome squeal, she threw herself into Kyle's arms.

Kyle sat her down on the step and put the beautiful solitaire diamond ring on her finger. All of the women weep openly. Kyle discreetly wipes away the tears that run down his own face. The rest of the men in the room clear their throats to fight off the emotion of the moment.

"I don't know what to say, I'm overwhelmed. Kyle, I love you so much. I can't think of anything better than spending the rest of my life with you."

Judy lost the battle against the flood of tears, as Kyle held her in his arms on the stairs.

The End
