 Genesis Alpha.

Everyone plays it. Everyone. In Jason's world, The unified Government had invented the computer game as a way of passing time for the elite... but soon they themselves became consumed with it, and it was distrubuted to the commoners. Jason finds himself willingly engrossed by the game, and soon he starts to forget his life while he plays.

Genesis Alpha, you see, is a computer game, one unlike anyone has seen ever before. Because in this game, state of the art technology so much more advance than the hologram projector, can read mind-waves and actually transport you into the game with a scan of the iris in your eye.

Jason learns about the game, a winding mystery full of secrets, threats, and danger at every turn.  Then one day, the game is hacked.

All players are now locked in the game, and there is only one hope:  to reach the last level, level 37, before the hacker does.

Oh, and one more thing; you have three lives.  When they are gone, you die.

Let me tell you one thing before this story begins.  There are two sides to every story.  One that everyone loves, they long for, they follow with their eyes greedily open for the clues, the hunt, the chase to the end, which is always happy, always safe, always home to them.  For they know the ending is happy, there is never tears or anger, everything is to their advantage.  Then there is the other side.

Dark, dank, misty, moldy, and strewn across with the debris of wars and protests, this is the side that everyone hates.  For it is the side that reflects the truth in things.  People listen to stories to escape their lives, to make them fill giddy and happy about themselves.  Not to realize that they could be next.  Next to fall, next to suffer, next to be tortured.  If not by others, than by themselves.

Now this is not my story.  This is not your story.  It is not merely the story of beginnings and endings, the story of happiness and sadness.  For is there truly a beginning?  And if there is no beginning then there must be no more ends.  Life can end, yes, but in essence it is a cycle, one that continues.  The past grows, reforms, and takes apart those things we do not understand.  Everything’s nature is revealed in the endless cycle.

So this story, the one that neither ends nor begins is the story of all of us.  The story of the side no one likes to see.   The truth is often stranger than fantasy, and this is our truth.  The truth is that you can not control the cycle.  You have to let it control you.  Or wrap yourself forever in fantasy, hidden and safe.

You are never safe.  Just remember that.

Never Safe.
