"NEXT UP WE HAVE OUR VERY OWN AERIALIST!" Sinestro annouced to the crowd. "HER ACT IS QUITE UNIQUE, AS YOU WILL SEE. SHE'S SPENT YEARS PERFECTING HER SKILL JUST FOR YOU FOLKS TONIGHT. SO, FOR YOUR VEIWING PLEASURE, DESDEMONA, DANCER IN THE SKY!"
Des took a deep breath and held it as Sinestro announced her. She closed her eyes and counted to ten. When she opened them, the silks fell from the top of the tent. They were a bloody red color, just like everything else around here. Des hated them. She wished they were purple.
Her mother was buried in her favorite purple dress. Des had spent the past week crying and had no tears left for the funeral. She went back home after, completely lost and in a haze. She was sitting on the couch staring at the wall when he showed up.
Des stepped out and into the middle of the silks. She looked around the audience, making sure they all understood that she was completely alone. She lifted her chin into the air and the silks were lifted. She held on and once in the air began her routine.
Des barely noticed him at first. She was completely out of it. But she began to sense a presence and turned. She would have jumped if she weren't so dead inside. He was wearing a cloak so she couldn't see what he looked like. But she could tell it wasn't normal.
"Hello, Desdemona. I'm your father."
She finished dancing through the air and was transitioning to the ground. She grabbed the silk and rolled herself up tight. Then she let go and rolled. Fast. The audience leaned in, afraid that she was going to fast and would hit the ground. But just as she was about to, she stopped suddenly. The audience gasped as a man stepped out, a summoned minor demon. He'd been the one to stop her.
The demon unrolled her all the way and Des stood. She stepped around him and into the midst of the silks. They danced around that way, a game of hide and seek through the silks with smooth, majestic dancing.
There were several times that the demon almost caught her but she got away, tangling herself in the bloodred silks. Then he finally caught her arm, and just as he was pulling her in to kiss her, the silks were raised and she was in the air again. The demon was left on the ground, staring hopelessly up at her as she danced into the sky and was gone. The audience burst into applause.
"How would you like something meaningful to do with your life?"
