“So, you’re staying over, too?” Alexis asked Madison. “You’re lucky Kat’s mom isn’t home. She’d freak.”
“Why?”
“Her mom is weird like that. She doesn’t like having people over if she hasn’t known them for, like, forever.”
Madison looked over at me as I kicked off my shoes and shoved them underneath my bed. “It’s true. My mom doesn’t trust people. She’s odd,” I shrugged.
“Should I leave then?” Madison asked. She looked worried, like something bad would happen if she stayed here.
“No, you can stay. My mom’s gotta realize that I’m gonna have people over. I need a social life for Christ’s sake!” I said and flopped down on the bed, splayed out on my back.
“I’m getting changed!” Alexis called and slammed the bathroom door behind her.
Madison stood at the edge of the bed rubbing her arms, looking anxious. I rolled over onto my side and yanked her down onto the bed gently. An ‘oof!’ escaped her lips as she landed on the bed, bouncing a few times.
“Stop looking so awkward, Madison. You’re with me, you can chill out,” I said and smiled.
She gave a small smile in return. “I know.”
“So do it,” I poked her side. She twitched and I laughed, continued poking her.
“Stop it!” she laughed, swatting my hands away. “Kat, stop!”
I sat up and tickled her sides. “Never!” I teased.
“Please?” she said between breaths and fits of giggles. Madison pouted at me and my heart fluttered at the cute expression.
“Nope, I’ll never stop,” I chuckled and ran my fingers up and down her sides, amused and absolutely loving the feel of her body.
“I’ll make you stop if you don’t do it on your own,” she said, grinning widely.
I rolled my eyes. “Go ahead and try! Your scrawny ass could make me do anything.”
Madison wriggled around erratically, her hands desperately trying to keep me away, but I only laughed harder. And so did she. I grinned, happy that she is finally easing up.
Really easing up.
Suddenly, she spun around and grabbed at my wrists, long fingers gripping me tightly. Madison shoved me forward and pushed me onto my back, my wrists still in her grasp, and leaned forward, placing her legs on either sides of my hips. Her face inches away from mine, hot, heavy breath on my lips.
The urge to close the distance between us grew almost too much to bear, a certain heat spreading from my core and down my body. I licked my lips and let my eyes trail hungrily up and down her body.
Not until now did I realize just how attracted I am to her. Sure, I know she’s gorgeous, but with her this close….god, it’s like I’m trying to maintain some sort of restraint. Self control.
My longing surprised me, and for a second I felt taken aback by it. Never have I felt this strongly for someone. I’ve known her for a little over a month, and already I like her. A lot. I almost scoffed.
“Still think my scrawny ass can’t make you do anything?” she smirked.
“I still think that,” I said, my voice husky.
Madison raised an eyebrow. “Oh? You’ll be surprised at what I can make you do.”
I chuckled softly. “Surprise me, then.”
“Oh, shit, what’d I just walk in on?” Alexis nearly screamed.
Madison and I jumped up from our position on the bed, the both of us blushing a deep red. I had to grab her shirt to keep her from falling off the bed.
“Nothing, Lexi, we were just talking,” I stammered.
“Right,” she said skeptically. “You want me to sleep in the guest bedroom or something? It’s cool with me if you guys were about to…you know--”
“We weren’t about to do anything!”
“Really, it’s fine, everyone needs to get some,” Alexi said, and stuffed her clothes into her bag.
I rolled my eyes. I couldn’t help but grin. “Look, we weren’t doing anything, Lex. You can stay here. But if we do do anything, put your iPod on,” I laughed and winked jokingly at Madison.
Alexi stared at me, mortified. “Shit, Kat, are you a lesbo?”
Madison looked at me. She seemed curious.
I shook my head slowly. “No…pansexual. And it has nothing to do with literal pans,” I added, knowing she’d reply with something dumb like that.
She laughed. “I know. I just had no idea you swung that way. Well, every way now apparently.”
I always told Alexis everything. I always have. But my sexuality was one thing that I kept a secret. I could never figure out whether she would be the type to turn me away or accept me for who I am. Alexis was always shifty about those types of things.
My hometown wasn’t exactly filled with the most open-minded people. Actually, quite the opposite. Good, Christian people who believed anything other than heterosexuality was the worst goddamn thing on Earth.
So, I hope you can understand my apprehension. Especially since Alexis comes from one of the more religious uptight families in our town.
“You like what you like,” I said simply, averting my gaze to the floor and waiting for the tense silence or my condemnation.
I got neither.
“Yeah, and that happens to be everything with a pulse,” she teased.
I made a face, shocked at her joking and relieved all the same. “Hey! I’m not that much of a whore.”
Madison giggled next to me. I looked at her. “You shut up.”
“Make me,” she said, and stuck her tongue out at me.
I quirked an eyebrow. “Don’t tempt me, Madison.”
“See, now when you tell me not do something, I wanna do it even more,” she smiled.
I laughed. “You sound like me.”
“Is that a good thing or a bad thing?”
“Depends on the way you look at it,” I scooted back toward the pillows.
I looked over at Alexis who held a blue folder in one hand and her iPod in the other. She rifled through the numerous packets and pulled one out.
“I hate to leave you two, but Kat here promised that I could type up my report for my English class. You guys seem to be having fun anyway,” Alexis gave a knowing smile. “I’ll be in the next room if you need me.”
“You’re really gonna type that up now?” I asked her. “It’s only Friday night, you know. You can wait til Sunday.”
She pursed her lips. “Yeah, but you know how bad I get when it comes to procrastinating. I’m better off just banging this thing out tonight this way I have the whole weekend free.”
“True, true. Well, Lex, you’re welcome to join us if you wanna take a break from your boring school work,” I offered.
She paused in the doorway and brushed her blonde hair behind her ear. “Expect me back in about ten minutes then if I can’t make any headway,” she laughed and left Madison and I.
I breathed deeply and clicked on the television, asked Madison if she would like to watch anything in particular. I pointed to the tall bookcase taking up the corner of the far wall. Most of my books were on shelves nailed high on the wall, and an extensive collection of films filled the black case. I had everything from raunchy comedies, to romance, horror, and even a few underground films I had come across.
Madison slid off the bed and knelt on the floor in front of the case and scanned the rows of DVDs, pulling movies out of their place to check the description and then putting them back.
After a few minutes of watching her browse through my collection, she settled on a personal favorite of mine; a musical puppet film that I had discovered in my freshman year while watching Youtube videos of a band I liked.
“Live Freaky Die Freaky?” she asked curiously. “What’s this about.”
I laughed. “Charles Manson. But the movie’s whacked. You sure you wanna watch something like this?”
“I like weird movies like this. You should see half the stuff I have at home,” she said. “It’s too bad I have to hide them all,” she added and then looked like she instantly regretted it.
“Why do you have to hide them?” I took the DVD case from her hand and walked over to the TV, bent down to place the disc in the DVD player.
She chewed her lip. “So my siblings don’t destroy them,” Madison said quickly.
I can smell bullshit from a mile away. I know she isn’t telling the truth, but I don’t feel like pushing her to open up about anything. So I said “oh” and opened up my closet, pulled out a shirt and a pair of shorts. I can’t stand to sit in these jeans any longer!
“I’m gonna got get changed real quick, alright?” I headed to the door.
“You don’t have to leave to get changed.”
I spun around on my heel. “Are you sure? I don’t wanna make you uncomfortable or whatever.”
“You won’t. I’ve seen people get undressed before, girls, too.”
“Right. I’m sure,” I said slowly.
“I play sports. Well, did. I quit this year,” she frowned. “Asthma.”
“That must suck,” I said and tugged my socks off and tossed them in the hamper, my shirt following the socks. I stood there in my bra. Goosebumps covered my body as the cold air hit my skin. “I used to play, too. Soccer. Played from Kindergarten until sophomore year.”
“Why’d you stop playing?” she stretched out on my bed.
I unbuckled my belt and undid the zipper of my jeans. “Honestly? Cause my coach was a pig. I didn’t want to quit, but he was a disgusting guy. And a total asshole to top it off.”
Madison’s eyes drifted down and crawled up and down my body. “Jeez,” she said quietly. “I’m lucky I didn’t have a coach like that when I played. He was actually gay, so I think us girls were the last things he would be staring at,” she chuckled.
“I kinda doubt he’d be looking at you, too,” I laughed. I tried pulling down my jeans, but the fabric was far too tight. Every time I wore these I always had a problem when it came to taking them off. They slid right on, but were a bitch to come off.
I fought with the denim for a few minutes while talking to Madison about our time playing sports, and eventually gave up and slumped against the wall.
“You look like you’re having trouble there.”
“I hate these jeans,” I sighed heavily. “I know I fit into them. They just don’t wanna come off of me.”
“Maybe I can help you take them off?” she asked.
My heart leapt into my throat and I’m pretty sure my face turned the deepest shade of red.
