Suicide by Cop?

Kai tugged Robyn along behind him, but didn’t dare rush too fast for the blind girl to follow. But when he saw the litpol uniform on the woman Dark rushed blindly towards, crying a name he didn’t quite make out (Laura Archie?) he couldn’t help but let go of Robyn and whisper hurriedly “Duck, hide! I have to help Dark!” He pushed her as quickly (yet gently) as he could into the ditch, and ducking low, rushed towards a billboard for cover. Dark’s rush towards the woman was the most suicidal approach he’d ever seen. It didn’t make sense. He almost seemed euphoric as he rushed towards his doom, the smile on his face making one expect to see children following and prancing, singing “Doe, a deer, a female deer...Ray, a drop of golden suuuuun!” He heard Dark cry out “My love!”

For the litpol agents part, the cold hatred and focus on her face was unmistakeable. This was not going to end well. Kai was almost frozen in spot, unable to decide on a course of action, but it was momentary, as he rushed forward, stooping to grab a large round stone from the ground, running as silently as he could towards the litpol agent’s rear. It had been years since he’d hit anyone, or anything, and he felt absolutely sick doing so, but it was almost as if he was watching himself, helpless. He was also stuck watching helplessly as the fist drove into Dark’s solar plexus and her leg swept him backwards to the pavement, rather hard. Detached, the observer part of Kai noted it was lucky that Dark had not hit his head, but then the scream rended the air as the litpol agent ground her heel into Dark’s palm and fingers. He saw then the other girl, and wondered how he’d missed her before... She had a two by four in her hand, procured from the same ether she had seemingly sprung from, and she swung it, hard, hitting the litpol agent in the back of the head.  Kai/Kaiser 123 found himself looking over her prone body, lying across Dark’s whimpering form, large stone up over his head, and he wondered why it was so ungodly hard to stop violence once it started...every fiber of his being shouted “STOP!” but his arms were already moving, swinging forward to drive the stone into the back of the litpol agent’s head, a strangled cry escaping from his throat...

A cry thankfully interrupted by a flying tackle, as the unknown girl slammed into him. Though she wasn’t heavy, she had thrown her all into it, and he was pushed to the side, sending the stone skittering harmlessly to the left of it’s intended target, and knocking Kai to the ground, forcing the breath from him. She climbed off him quickly enough, a look of panic on her face, staring at the prone litpol officer. She pulled the woman off Dark and Kai almost expected to see a loving reunion. Perhaps he’d misunderstood, and it was the girl that Dark had been running towards. But no...Kai was more confused than ever when the girl rummaged wildly through the litpol officers pockets instead, and screamed in frustration, pulling out of all things, three shattered pencils...

Kai stood then, and realised they had no time to figure anything out. He heard footsteps, and dogs in the distance, closing fast. There was no time for anything but to run.  He slapped Dark, who was moaning, clutching his hand. “Get UP! We’ve got no time for any of this!” He didn’t know what to do about Archi just yet, but had to assume she’d follow...she’d hit the litpol agent after all.  “Get your ass moving, too!”

“Robyn! Run! Hurry, to my voice!  We gotta go go go!” He ran towards her as well, to grab her hand, and lead her as quickly as he dared to the rest of them. Dark was kneeling over the litpol agent, clutching his hand, and leaning his head to press his cheek to hers, which made no sense to Kai whatsoever. “COME ON!” he yelled.

Dark didn’t move. “Fine! I’ll carry her! Dark! Grab Robyn’s hand, and let’s MOVE!” He turned to the girl lamenting the pencils.  “If you’re coming, grab Robyn’s hand, and follow me!” He reached down, and hoisted the litpol agent’s limp form over his shoulder, with only a slight show of strain. Adrenaline could make amazing things happen. He hoped to god they could find a vehicle, before they found litpol agents. At the very least, now that the litpol’s limp form was on the move, so was Dark...

The End
