Forgotton Child

"Mum,where are we going?" I asked,my head tilted to one side like a confused dog."It's a surprise sweetie"She said sweetly. I liked surprises. Jerome may seem like a joker, but no one knows his sad past.

Jerome's POV

"Jerome, why don't you ever talk about your parents?" Mara asked me. My face fell at the word "parents." Apparently she noticed too, because the next thing she asked was, "I'm sorry, did I say something wrong?"

I sighed. This was going to be a long story, but I needed to get it off my chest.

My mom came to pick me up from Kindergarten, without my dad today, but I noticed something weird. There were luggage's in the back; my mom never told me anything about going away. My hand grasped my good luck charm, one of those gnomes with the purple hair. I took it everywhere with me.

"Buckle up" She demanded, sterner than usual, and my mom could be stern. She took off fast, real fast, I was worried something was wrong. Especially when I noticed we weren't heading home.

"Mum, where are we going?" I asked, my head cocked to one side like a confused dog.

"It's a surprise, honey" My mom said in a sweet tone. I liked surprises.

After about 15 minutes of silence, the car came to a stop. When my mom took me out I was amazed. A huge building, a huge castle stood in front of my very eyes. She opened the trunk and took out the luggage, dragging me to a spot with a door. She threw the luggage in my hand, and handed me a cell phone, telling me she would call me sometime. She then started to sprint back to the car.

"Mum, wait!-" I called, but I was cut off by the sound of a door slamming, and an engine starting. I was left here alone at five, to rot, and my parents hadn't even bothered to say goodbye. I couldn't figure out what I did wrong. I was a good child. Why didn't they want me? A tear rolled down my cheek. I guess I was supposed to head into this house. I knocked on the door, and a nice woman answered.

"You must be Jerome. Oh! You are so very young!" She said happily leading me in. So, my life here began.

"I never got a call from them you know, Mara. Sometimes I turn the ringer on high before I go to bed, just in case." I said looking down, tears forming at my eyes.

"Jerome, I-I had no idea. I'm so sorry" Mara looked at me sincerely.

"It's okay, it's not like it's your fault" I said feeling the lump in my pocket. I reached my hand in and pulled something out. My purple gnome.

The End
