Things he never thought

Oh God. Oh God. Oh God. These are the thoughts that are running through James’s mind all the way back to his place. He’s not sure what exactly happened in the kitchen, but he knows something changed. He felt, for the first time in a long time, completely safe. Like nothing in the world could go wrong. But he didn’t know what to do with that. These feelings were completely new to him, and even though it felt good, he was utterly confused. Oh God.

He let himself into his apartment and went to get himself a beer. He needed to relax and find something else to think about. Something other then what happened in the kitchen. Something other than Autumn’s smile. Something other then her eyes. Oh God. Pulling the 6 pack out of his fridge and switching on the T.V to watch sport he slumps himself onto his sofa. Swigging back a mouthful of Stella he finds it hard not to keep his thoughts from wondering back to his dream the other night. Maybe it was trying to tell him something? Ever since then he’s found it hard not to notice the details of Autumn’s eyes. How beautiful they are. How they light up when she smiles. And that smile, the smile that he couldn’t drag his eyes away from in the kitchen. The smile that caused him to smile in return, without even having to think about it. The smile that could only be described as amazing. Oh God.

He takes another gulp of his beer and tries to focus on the football that’s being repeated on T.V. He can’t be having these thoughts about Autumn. She was, after all, his best friend. And nothing all. Just his friend. These thoughts would make things complicated and as if things were not confusing enough. He didn’t know where these feelings were coming from but he did know he shouldn’t be feeling them. So after finishing the first can, he starts on the other. He wasn’t ready to face these feelings yet, so for now, he was prepared to forget.

He was just drifting off about an hour later when he realised that, I like her…Oh God.

The End
