"Ya frikin' idjit!" Chloe threw her hands up in the air as the five of them walked back to their rooms. "What were ye thinkin'?!" Chloe tried her new favorite accent as the group laughed as Marc simply blushed.
Then, for the first time, Chloe had realized that Marc wasn't wearing a scarf for the first time and a scar became noticeable along his neck, as if someone had tried to slit his throat! Chloe suppressed this thought until Emily and James ad gone down their own hallways and , just as Chloe had hoped, it was just her Marc and Olivia. Chloe said her good byes to Olivia and Marc as she went back into her room, waiting behind the closed door for Marc to say goodbye to Olivia.
When she had heard Olivia's door close, Chloe quickly opened the door and ran to stand extremely close to Marc in case he was in mid bubble.
"Woah there, chica," Marc smiled as he seemed shocked at her sudden movements. His scarf was back on, wrapped tightly around his neck as if it had never come off. Chloe simply stood there and looked him in the eyes.
"We all have our pasts," she simply said.
"What are you talking about?" Marc seemed confused as Chloe didn't let go of his gaze.
"I've never seen you without your scarf."
Marc suddenly knew what Chloe was talking about. He took a step back and then recomposed himself. He closed his eyes and sighed. "You're right."
Chloe raised a brow and frowned, half knowing what Marc was about to say. He was about to shut her out again.
"And sometimes," he continued, "we don't want to share our pasts with others."
Chloe didn't say anything and just continued to stare at Marc who began to feel slightly uncomfortable.
"Why don't you tell me about your past? Everyone here seems to have some kind of dramatic story that lead them here." Marc tried averting Chloe's question, clearly succeeding as Chloe seemed taken aback.
"You know what? You're right." Chloe slowly began to walk back into her room. "Some stories are best left untold."
Marc smirked as he formed a bubble around himself and within seconds, Chloe was all alone in the hall, and her stomach fell into a pit that felt all too familiar.
Chloe opened the door to her room and quietly shut the door as her legs gave way. She sat on the floor with her legs sprawled in front of her. Why was she such a wreck this time? Chloe had always thought about her past before, so why was it hitting her so hard this time?
Time had past as she stayed in this position, but she had nothing else to do today. It wasn't until her iPad had gone off that she snapped back into reality and realized that her face was covered in tears. She whipped them with the back of her hand composed herself.
She walked to the table where her iPad and other random papers lay and swiped it open to reveal a message from Gaby.
Chloe, it has come to my attention that in the short amount of time that you've been here, you've learned to understand your powers. So, in order to further your training I am assigning you a mission. Come to the location shown at the end of this message and we will further discuss the details. The people accompanying you on this mission will be the ones you've grown close to.
At the end of the message there was indeed a map that shown where Chloe was and where her next destination would be.
The people I've grown closest to Chloe thought as the five other people Chloe knew at the school had come into mind.
She smiled as she walked out the door to her room and made her way down the halls, and along the way she met up with the Emily who seemed slight confused but mostly excited.
"Do you think we're going on some life or death adventure?" Chloe was clearly excited to be thinking about something other than her mental breakdown.
"Oh, maybe we're getting sent to Dubai!" Emily seemed just as excited as Chloe was.
The girls continued to talk about all the different possibilities as they walked down the long hall that lead to a door with a plate with Gabby's name on it.
"So glad you girls came," Gabby smiled as the rest of the group was seated around her table.
Chloe avoided Marcs gaze and took her seat next to her mentor, Alex as Emily did the same.
"Now," Gabby said more formally. "Onto your mission."
