Emily watched as Chloe ran towards the building, apparently in search of Marc. She glanced at Alex and smiled a little at his face as he watched Chloe run.
"So um... you're Chloe's personal trainer?" Alex turned to face her.
"I guess that's what you'd call it. We offer friendship too."
"I'd noticed." She smirked. James appeared at her side and Alex glanced at him.
"You're not the only one." He winked and set off back to the house. Emily turned, trying to conceal a blush, to face James.
"What was that about?" He asked.
"Just telling him it was nice for Chloe to have an older friend to look out for her."
"Right." He smirked but then the look dropped from his face. "Are you alright?"
"Sure, why wouldn't I be?"
"Because you were about one more bubble away from death?"
"Oh." Emily remembered what they'd been told about the riot and suddenly felt a little sick. "Yeah... um..."
"It's okay to be freaked out."
"Actually I was thinking next time Marc bubbles me I'll knee him in the-"
"-Okay! Well... I guess that's the attitude we want."
Emily sighed and rubbed her aching, and now chilly, bare arms.
"I'm guessing training is off? Because right now all I want is to talk to Chloe and go to bed." And see Kate, she thought but she kept that to herself. She was missing her friend, and couldn't understand why she hadn't heard from her.
"Sure. I'll see you at breakfast." He smiled.
"Thanks." She smiled weakly.
"Would you like me to-" He gestured at her.
"Make you feel better?" He winced. "I don't mean... you know." Emily watched him struggle for a little before grinning.
"I'm flattered really..." She repeated his words from early and watched him ease up and grin over it. Then she popped over and gave him a hug before running to the entrance of the house without looking back. He remained behind her, smiling, if a little shell shocked.
Emily slowed to a walk once inside. Her limbs ached and she was sure she wouldn't be able to move tomorrow. Then again she was sure if she didn't get up someone would make her. She reached Chloe's door and knocked. The door opened.
"Hi." Chloe looked surprised that Emily stood in front of her.
"Hi. I just wanted to check on you. You know... after everything."
"I'm fine." Chloe shrugged but it was obvious she was lying. Emily decided to not push it. "You?"
"As good as can be expected."
"Yeah..." Chloe hung awkwardly and Emily decided to change the subject.
"So... you and Alex..." Chloe glanced up.
"Just... you know. You seem... friendly."
"Well yeah... that's the point isn't it?"
"You know what I mean." Emily grinned.
"Yeah? What about you and James?"
Touche Chloe. Touche.
"If we weren't both obviously exhausted and aching I'd say it's time for a talk about guys..." Emily joked.
"I'd like that... I mean if I wasn't about to pass out." Emily laughed and Chloe joined in.
"Same. Okay, well I guess I'll see you tomorrow. Breakfast?"
"Ugh, mornings." Chloe groaned.
"I know." Emily chuckled. "I can't even be bothered to stay up for dinner."
"Have you not been to your room? There were sandwiches in mine when I got here. I guess they thought we deserved some alone time."
"Great." Emily's stomach rumbled. "I look forward to sandwiches and sleep."
"Night then." Chloe smiled.
"Night." Emily gave her a little wave and then headed down the corridor to her room. She found sandwiches and a glass of orange juice at the side of her bed and groaned in relief. She ate, drank the juice, brushed her teeth and threw water on her face. After that all she had to do was slip in to bed and everything would feel better, she was sure. She checked her ipad and phone and found nothing from Kate.
Where are you Kate?
