Chloe: Recklessness

"So mental training," I asked as we entered a private room. There wasn't much in it except some candles that lit the room. "Looks like fun." Chloe smiled as he sat down.

"It's relaxing. When you start going on missions, you'll be wanting some quiet time," Alex said as he beckoned for Chloe to sit down in front of him.

As she sat down, Alex pulled out a small pebble from his pocket. "Everyone trains in a different way. For you, it's meditation. So, I want you to focus on nothing but this rock." He placed it in front of me.

"Well, you see," Chloe was about to go into a lengthy introduction to how her power works, but Alex simply shook his head.

"I know how your power works and I also know that you can't always control it," he smiled. "I know what I'm getting myself into." He obviously knew about the death spiral objects tend to do when Chloe tried to use her powers.

"Your powers mainly focus on the gravitational pull of objects. You basically change the gravity of the atmosphere around to object and essentially cause it to levitate."

"Someone's been creeping again," Chloe smiled, as she realized that he had probably worded it better than she could ever.

"Okay," Chloe looked down at the pebble and began to focus on nothing but the pebble.

"Close your eyes," Alex's voice came in a whisper. "Don't just focus on the pebble, but on the earth as well. Feel the pull change."

Chloe closed her eyes and imagined the pebble. she slowly began changing the gravity around the object and he body seemed to have been linked with it. She could feel her body lift from the ground and as it did, she could feel gravity loosen its grip on her. She opened her eyes and in front of her was the pebble, floating.

She smiled as she saw Alex smiling with her. "Good, now-" Suddenly the world around her changed. The air changed, becoming lighter, fresher.

Chloe found herself outside with the cool breeze against her face. "Did my powers do this?" A voice called from next to her. Emily?

"I don't think so," Chloe said as she saw Marcus standing in front of her.

"Ladies!" Marc bowed as if we were royalty. "I figured we could use a field trip! So, we are going to London!"

"Marc, we can't just bail whenever we want." Olivia, who Chloe hadn't noticed was here until now. Clearly this was a way to get closed to her. Or, that's what Chloe had thought. "Abby will find us and bring us back in no time anyway."

"Too late." Marc said as the surroundings changed again. "Plus, it's not like they can trace me."

A small pain gripped at Chloe's stomach as they 'landed' somewhere. Suddenly a van pulled up with an extremely mad Gabby coming from it. The cluster of four all stepped back as she approached.

Mr. Sydney came to them and whispered, "It's time to go." So only they could hear. They rushed into the van as Chloe gave one final look back towards Marc.

"We apologize for Marc's behavior," Mr. Sydney finally said as the car began driving.

No one spoke as silence overtook the car. "What Marc did was innocent yet unforgivable." He shook his head as if he was talking to himself. He stared outside the window as he continued. "Marc tried bringing you to London, but if he had, you two would've died," he nodded at James and Olivia. "And you two would've been kidnapped, tortured for information and died."

Still, no one spoke. "Marc is careless with his powers, but he is essential to this groups; his uniqueness and stubbornness make him invaluable yet a terrible pain. There are people out there that want intel on the Forecasters and Marc has already given them what they need in another timeline. We cannot let that happen in this one."

Chloe opened her mouth to ask a question, but she was cut off by a slight glare from Mr. Sydney. "That is all you need to know for now."

As the van came to a stop, the group realized that they were back at the castle. Alex stood at the entrance, clearly knowing what had happened already after Gabby had stopped at the castle before heading halfway to London.

Alex came to meet Chloe with questions. "What happened? Are you okay? You just vanished just as you were getting the hang of things."

"I'm fine," Chloe reassured him.

A small giggle and a nudge came from Emily who was clearly intrigued at what had happened between the two.

Suddenly, Marc and Gabby appeared in front of the growing group. Marc said nothing as he stormed past Chloe and Emily. "I hope you are all right," she addressed the group.

"Hey, do you think we can pick up where we left off tomorrow?" Chloe asked Alex.

"Yeah, that's fine." He smiled knowing what Chloe was planning on doing.

Chloe nodded as she ran after Marc who had bubbled off to who knows where.

She made her way through the castle, turning at every corner. Her futile attempts made her realize that she had a secret weapon. Her affinity with the earth and its relation to gravity could come in handy. She focused on the pull of gravity and all she could feel was the immense weight of the castle, but as she focused, she could sense any extra weight being placed on the castle. With the amount of students in the building however, it was impossible, until she noticed one vanish. Bingo.

The weight had moved and was now right behind her. Chloe opened her eyes and turned with Marc's face inches from hers. She stumbled back, but caught herself after she put a reasonable amount of space between the two.

"What the hell were you thinking?" She said, now furious. "You could've had us all killed."

"Do you really think I would put you in any danger if I had known some riot would've broken out because of who we were?" He said calmly.

"No, but I do expect you to do reckless things regardless of the consequence."

"I didn't know that things would take a turn for the worse." He looked down and turned to lean against the wall. "Why are you so mad anyways? It's not like you were hurt."

"I'm not mad that you blinked us to our death," Chloe said. "I know we haven't known each other long, but I thought you'd at least tell me when you decide to charge to our deaths. I'm down with adventure, but I'd like to know when I'm about to get blinked half way to London, get kidnapped, tortured, and killed. If I die, I don't want it to be on anyone but myself." Chloe walked passed Marc and back to her room that was surprisingly a few doors down. She shut the door and whispered, "No one should have to bear that burden."

The End
