Abby: Girl Talk

Emily had just settled cross-legged on the end of her bed with her ipad between her knees when a light rap sounded on her door.

"Who is it?" she called as she looked up, deciding that she wouldn't bother getting up if it was that annoying Marcus guy. He was cute, but still annoying.

"It's Gabby. May I come in, please?"

Emily hopped off the bed and walked quickly to the door. She didn't want to keep the lady in charge waiting. She opened the door for Gabby, who looked like a twenty-year-old today, with long auburn hair that fell in loose ringlets down her back almost to her waist. She was carrying one of those wooden tray-like things with legs that you use for giving meals to someone in bed.

"Hi Emily," she said. "I brought some snacks. I thought we should have a little chat about your lineage, and what it means to you. We can camp out on your bed, if you're okay with that."

Emily nodded, and Gabby strode purposely toward the bed. She was wearing a long psychedelic sleeveless top with tie dyed bell bottomed scruffy faded jeans with Peace symbols hand painted all over them. She was barefoot. She hopped lightly onto the bed and settled cross-legged with the tray balanced securely between her knees. Emily climbed onto the bed and knelt in front Gabby.

"Cool duds. I'm not sure I've ever seen a combo like that," she said.

"Of course not,"Gabby laughed. It's from the 1960's decade. I love the music and the style. Not to mention that I was very busy during that period trying to prevent Armageddon, along with the rest of this organization. No-one but us knew how very close the forces of evil came to tearing our planet to pieces - literally. Anyway, I brought popcorn, peanuts, and chips. The silver ice bucket holds  gingerale, root beer, cola, and cherry soda. There's some onion dip nestled in among the ice somewhere, too. Help yourself."

Emily leaned over and pulled a bottle of iced tea out of the bucket. As she twisted off the cap, Gabby opened the bag of chips, and placed the aforementioned onion dip on the bed between them, then opened a bottle of cherry soda. After taking a long swig, she nibbled on a chip and looked at Emily in an open and friendly manner.

"You just discovered that you're descended from one of the children of Kronos, Father of time, " Gabby said as a statement of fact, not a question. Emily wondered how she knew that. Either she was psychic, or there were security cameras everywhere. Emily rather guessed the latter, but she didn't ask, she just munched on potato chips, waiting for Gabby to get to the point.

"Kronos had seven children: Zeus, Hera, Hestia, Hades, Poseidon, Demeter and Aphrodite. You're not from the Zeus line, but it's up to you to research which line you do belong to, and what the implications are for you, personally. Meanwhile, I'm here to help you understand what your capabilities are, and how you've already used them in moments of crisis without realizing you were doing it. When you were eighteen, you were told that you had no time left, that you were going to die – but you didn't. Do you know why?”

The doctors were wrong.”

No, they weren't. You manipulated time. You gave yourself more time than what would have been your destiny as a human. The blood of your divine ancestors kicked in to save you. There was a time when you where overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of the city, and all the frantic movement around you. You wished everything would just slow down for a few minutes for you to catch your breath, and cross a busy street without being bumped into, or have a foot run over by a stroller wielded by a harassed mommie in a hurry. You wished it, and it happened, without realizing that it was you that made it happen. It was like everything around you was moving in slow motion, but you didn't. You crossed the street and walked to your job without being pushed, nudged, or run over. You were able to relax and start your day on a less stressful level."

"I remember that, now. I had completely forgotten it. I looked back, and the lady with the stroller hadn't even crossed the street yet, and I was almost to my destination already. I just gave my head a quick shake, and everything started moving fast again. You must have been watching me."

"Yes, but only when you used your abilities. It wasn't very often. You can make time slow down, or speed up without affecting your own personal time capsule. There's more to it than that I expect, but that's all that you've used of your powers so far."

"Wow. I had no idea. I'm glad that's cleared up. I was wondering what I was doing here."

Emily leaned forward and picked up the jar of peanuts. She was going to enjoy learning more about herself and her powers.

The End
