Snape and Alice appeared in the grass in front of Snape's house. Snape walked towards the door, but Alice grabbed his arm.
"Wait," she said. "There's something I have to ask you. Something I couldn't ask you in front of the others."
"Yes," said Snape, now turned away from his doorstep and towards Alice.
"Who are you fighting for?"
"The right side. It's going to get complicated from here on out. But trust me, I'm still on our side."
"But if you were on our side, why did you kill him?"
"The Dark Lord wanted Draco to do it. You and I both know he would've failed. I made an Unbreakable Vow with Narcissa to help Draco. And besides, Dumbledore knew I was going to kill him. He asked me to."
"Why would he ask you to do that?!"
"He was already dying. He put on a cursed ring and he had perhaps as long to live as I gave him."
"Is that why his hand was all blackened?"
"Yes. We really can't talk about anything like this anymore. The Dark Lord will soon rise to power. It's risky enough doing what we're doing. He has people everywhere listening and whatching everywhere."
"Okay, I trust you."
