CHAPTER 42: TearsMature

Alice was eating dinner in the Great Hall with Draco, Pansy, Crabbe and Goyle.

"Did you hear that Weasley kid got poisoned?" asked Pansy.

"Really?  The one who helped you try to send me to Azkaban?" sneered Alice.

"When are you going to let that go?" said Pansy.

"You sent me to prison!"

"Tried to send you to prison," said Pansy.

"Whatever," mumbled Alice.

"I heard that fourth year from Ravenclaw is trying to slip you a love potion," said Goyle.  Draco laughed.

"Careful," said Draco.  "You might get poisoned."  Alice and Crabbe laughed too.

Proffessor McGonagall tapped on Alice's shoulder.

"Proffessor Dumbledore wishes to see you."

Alice nodded and walked to Dumbledore's office.  She could hear him speaking inside his office.

" . . . have you grown to care for the boy after all?"

"For him?" she heard Snape yell.  "Expecto Patronum!"

It was silent for a few moments and then Alice heard Dumbledore speak.

"Lily . . . After all this time?"

"Always," said Snape.

Snape opened the door to leave and saw Alice, her eyes full of tears.

"Alice . . . Alice, I -- "

She ignored him and walked away.
