CHAPTER 33: The Hospital Wing AgainMature

Alice awoke on a bed in the hospital wing.

"Am I dead?" she asked.

"No," said Madame Pomphrey.  "But you came pretty close to it."

Madame Pomphrey was dabbing at Alice's forearm with a wash cloth.  Alice scanned the roo and saw that there were many other people here.  Most of the teachers, except Dumbledore were there.  Draco, Pansy, Crabbe and goyle were also there.  Blaise wasn't.

"Will it heal?" asked Snape.  Alice assumed he was talking about whatever Madame Pomphrey was cleaning on her right arm.

"No," said Madame Pomphrey.  "I think it will scar."

"Alice," said Severus.  "Alice, you're awake."

"Severus," said Alice.  "I think I spend more time in the Hospital Wing than out."

"It's sad but true," said Draco.

"What happened to you?" asked Proffessor McGonagall.

"I-I was looking for Severus," said Alice.  "During the p-party.  And Slughorn said he'd left.  So I started wandering aroung the c-corridors.  And something -- something grabbed my arm and pulled me into the d-dungeon."

"Did you see who?" asked Snape.

"No, it was dark and I couldn't make out his face."

"Did he speak?" asked Proffessor Flitwick.

"Yes . . . a-a little.  He said he wasn't . . . "

"He wasn't what?" asked Snape.

"He wasn't g-going to let you have m-me all t-to yourself."

"What did he do to you?" said Snape coldly.

Alice felt tears well up in her eyes.

"I'm sorry," she said, crying very hard.  "I'm . . . sorry . . . he tortured me . . . with the cruciatus curse . . . I tried not to let him do it . . . but he was whipping me with chains . . . I tried to push him off of me . . . I-I didn't want im to do it -- he just . . . "

"He just what?  What did he do Alice?  Tell me!"

"I t-t-tried to stop him," Alice sniffled, tears running all down her cheeks.  "I'm so sorry . . . he tore my clothes off . . . and I was so weak . . . " Her voice trailed off.

Snape looked as though someone had just punched him in the face.

"Alice," he said stroking her cheek.  "It's not your fault.  Stop apologizing, I'm not ad at you."  He turned to the teachers.  "Bring every boy in sixth and seventh year down to the  Great Hall immediately.  Slughorn I need all the Veritaserum you have."
