Snape had been sitting by Alice's side for seven hours. Sitting on the bed with her in the hospital wing, firmly gripping her hand. Madame Pomphrey said she'd done all that she could, but it wasn't enough.
The whole time he'd been sitting there, he could see the transformation. Her skin slowly regained the small amount of color she'd had as a human. Her breathing slowed down. Her hair went from charcoal black to dark brown.
"Has she improved since I visited last?" asked Dumbledore.
"No," said Snape. He held his and up to Alice's cheek as her lips changed from redish-purple to a light shade of pink.
"Her transformation looks nearly complete," said Madame Pomphrey.
"You should eat, Severus," said Dumbledore.
Snape stood up and looked at Alice one last time before walking towards the door. Alice moaned.
"P-Proffessor Snape," said Madame Pomphrey. "Proffessor Snape I think she's waking."
Snape rushed over to Alice's side. She moaned again.
"Severus?" she said, opening her eyes. Snape smiled.
"Yes?" he said. He'd almost forgotten how beautiful her blue eyes had been.
"Severus," she repeated. She sat up. "Did it work? The potion?"
"Here," said Snape. He haned her a small mirror. She gasped. She looked into the mirror with curiosity and contempt.
"I'm hideous!" she said. "My hair . . . my lips -- is that a freckle?!?"
"I think you look better like this," said Snape. Alice smoothed her mow medium-thick eyebrows. Snape held her hand. "And for the record, I never really liked pencil-thin eyebrows on you."
"You're just saying that," said Alice. But she smiled in spite of herself.
"I'm just saying it because it's true."
Alice stood up, still grasping Snape's hand.
"What time is it?"
"Six," said snape.
"Really? I was out that long?"
"Yes, luckily I didn't have any classes, so I could stay with you, here."
"You didn't have to do that," said Alice.
"Yes, I did."
Alice's stomach growled.
"What the bloody hell was that?" said Alice. Snape laughed.
"You're just hungry," he said, still laughing.
"Oh. . . . I knew that," said Alice.
Snape couldn't help laughing again.
"So, um Slughorn's having a Christmas party tommorrow night," said Alice.
"Yes, I know, I was invited."
"I wasn't. But I was wondering if you maybe wanted to take me?"
"Well, who else was I going to take?" said Snape sarcasticly. "Why weren't you invited?"
"I'm failing his class and I'm not part of his stupid Slug Club or whatever the hell it's called." Alice's stomach growled again.
"You need to eat," said Snape. "Come on, dinner's almost over."
