Panic flushed over my body as I jolted upright, and I could hear distant chatter. My eyes were heaved as I struggled to open them, it was as if I was drugged. My vision was blurry and I could barely make out the figures in front of me. I opened my mouth to speak, but no sound was made. I felt as if I couldn't move and the panicked feeling spread quickly. I could hear the other passenger's screaming, and the air whistling as if a window were open. It was at that moment I realized what was happening. I could feel the decent and the passenger's screams grew louder.
"Miss, can you hear me?" a voiced called and my eyes flung open. It was a face I didn't recognize, and I was disoriented. Was I dreaming? Where was I ? I could sense I wasn't on an aircraft anymore and it was silent. I scanned the room, and it seemed as if I were in some kind of medical facility. "Where am I?" I whimpered peering up at the woman.
"Please ma'am I need you to remain calm, " she responded politely. " There has been an accident, and you have sustained head injuries." The tears flooded my cheeks as I cried, "What? No, I was on a flight back home, and I..."" I couldn't really remember anything. I couldn't even really recall boarding the flight.
"You have been in a comma for three weeks," she said sympathetically. " We found you roaming the streets." This was all to overwhelming and my head was pounding like a freight train. I looked up at her and whispered, "Where am I?" She sighed and replied, " Your in the Hospital." I was feeling a little dizzy. "Ian, " I muttered. "Where is Ian?" She looked puzzled but answered , " I'm sorry miss who?" Before I could say another word I started to slip into unconsciousness.
I could hear voice in the background, "She still remembers, up her dosage." I wanted to jump out of bed and run for the door, but I couldn't move and I couldn't even speak. I drifted off into blackness.
"Ian," I called in relief. He ran toward me. "Yes, honey what's wrong? Is everything OK?" he asked with a concerned tone. I wrapped my arms around him and squeezed tight. He giggled, "I'm right here hun, are you sure your OK?" I didn't say a word I just enjoyed the warmth of his body on mine. It must have been an hour that past before I pulled away from Ian and opened my eyes.
I was not with Ian I was back in the hospital. The nurse heard me groan and quickly appeared next to me. "Miss," I called faintly. " What is going on and where is my husband." Just as I looked down for my ring she replied, " I'm sorry to tell you, but he didn't make it." More confusion kicked in as I thought to myself, make what? I didn't understand what was going on. The last thing I remembered was boarding the flight from Ireland to come back home.
"What day is it?" I demanded. The nurse looked down at me and exhaled, "It's June 3rd, 2025." It became hard to breath as I was gasping for air. The nurse disappeared, then returned with an oxygen mask. She placed it over my mouth and my thoughts disappeared.
When I came to again I was in a larger room, it looked more like a bedroom. "Hello," I called out. "is anyone there?" A man entered the room and spoke gently, "Hey honey are you feeling better?" I was taken back by his words. "Why are you calling me honey?" I asked angrily, " and where is my husband. Then man laughed as he replied, " Very funny Lily, I see you still have your sense of humor."
What the Hell is going on, am I going completely insane. Nothing I have endured in the past twenty four hours makes sense. I knew this was not Ian standing in front of me, and I knew this was not my room. What I couldn't figure out was why all this was happening to me. I could feel my eyes getting heavy again and I passed out.
When I woke once again I was back in the hospital room, but i was alone. I could see from the window across the room it was dark outside. There was a table next to me, and on top was a pitcher of water and a glass. I slowly sat up and reached fro the glass and poured some water. As I sipped from the glass as nurse walked in, but not the same one as earlier. She held a clip board and seemed to be jotting down something.
"Hello, how are you feeling today?" she questioned. "How the fuck do you think I feel, " I shouted. I was angry and confused and I wanted some answers. "Why won't anyone tell me what the hell is going on, " I pleaded. " Where the hell is my husband?" i demanded again. The nurse pulled the chair up to my bed side and sat down next to me. Her soft brown eyes peered into mine as she spoke, "I'm sorry sweetheart, I don't have all the answers you want." She grabbed my hand and massaged it as she explained what she knew.
I didn't want to believe her words, they couldn't be true. She explained that I had been in a fatal accident, and I had amnesia when I first arrived, so they had no idea where I came from. They found me roaming the streets covered in blood. It took some digging for them to figure out who I was.
I was scared to ask, "And who am I." The nurse smiled at me and started to laugh. " Your a nobody," she spat, "and nobody will miss a nobody like you." She got up and hurried out the door as it slammed behind her. Now I was even more lost then before.
