Tanner shuffled in his shackles and stood for the baylift to remove them before sitting in a hard wooden chair.

"How do you plea?"

"Guilty." croaked Tanner into the microphone. He could see his mother crying silently in his step-fathers arms. His mother refused to make eye contact while his step-father gave him a vacant stare.

"Do you realise what you've done?" asked the judge in a cold tone.

"You've been found guilty of four counts of manslaughter. Your being tried as an adult, and as such I sentence you to 23 years in prison."

With this Tanner heard his mothers sobs but he couldn't bring himself to look at her.
