Finn had seen pictures of Mams holding little ones.  She would hold Precious like that.  And when she did, one of her humming songs came to her, songs she would sing to the blue sky and the God who lived in the Everlasting.

"Thank you, God, for living in me,

Thank you, God, for all that I see.

Thank you, God, for all of Your love,

Thank you, God, who lives above."

Precious smiled.

Finn liked that.

"Thank you, God, for living in me."

Thank you, God, for all that I see.

Thank you, God, for all of Your love,

Thank you, God, who lives above.

... thank you, God, for living in me ..."

Finn began to sing softer for Precious had closed her eyes to sleep.

Author Guidance for this Story

Tasha_Noble I see Finn as a high-functioning mentally subnormal woman who has been brought up, sheltered and protected from the cruel outside world, (the Big Outside) in remote woodland, by her well-meaning, widowed and reclusive father. After he dies, she manages alone, partly on the generosity of a local farmer and his family.

Finn is aware that she is ''different'', but has never been told why. She was never sent to school, but has some skills, such as sewing and cooking, and other housekeeping skills.

I thought it would be interesting to see how one ''innocent'' copes with looking after another.

Finn is unfamiliar with the outside world, so will not know anything at all about looking after a baby. She may, initially, need to get help from the farmer's family, but without giving anything away about her foundling, of course.
