After Noah left, Ariana was dead asleep on the couch and it was just Wren and me.
"Why are you so smiley?" Wren asked.
"Because," I winked.
"It's him, isn't it?"
"Well, there's no need to be jealous..."
"Whatever," I teased, walking into his kitchen finding some fancy wine.
"I wanna try this," I said, searching for an opener.
"You sure like to drink," he laughed.
"Well, maybe if I get drunk... you can take advantage of me."
"I won't do that..."
His voice droned off.
"What... you don't trust me?"
"Not really," I said.
I tossed him a glass. With our reflexes, it seemed impossible to miss a catch.
"So... we're good?" he asked.
"Yeah... I should've known you were hiding something. All hot guys tend to."
"Ok, yeah, sure..."
I rolled my eyes.
"So... that means Noah is, too," I whispered, "and he's not competition."
"I wasn't wondering... but does that mean we're back together?"
"Nah... I don't think we'll ever be. I can't be with a once engaged man... who's my teacher... who turned my life upside down... literally. And... I don't know..."
"What... you still have feelings for me?" I asked.
"Yeah... I do."
"I don't know. You're different. You make me feel so... I don't know. I'm not gonna get into some sentimental crap."
"That's good. Because I can't talk about this right now."
We were sitting on the counter at this point.
"But seriously," Wren asked, "if all this never happened... if I never turned you when you kissed me... would we be together?"
"If I wasn't a vampire... you see... I've always had the biggest crush on you. I thought you were the hottest guy alive. And you still are, by the way. But... I knew you liked me. I just had the hunch. You always looked at me secretly during tests, you winked, you smiled, you laughed... you seemed to be speaking to me and only me during class discussions. But when I kissed you I didn't know if it was just a small affair or something huge. And then when you're fangs sinked into my throat... it was hurtful but it felt so good. And that was bad... 'cause that's supposed to freak me out, right? But it made me attracted to you even more. And then we had sex. The best sex ever. And I knew that I..."
"You didn't answer my question," he whispered.
"I was getting to it," I said silently, placing my glass on the counter.
"But you can continue. I like hearing you talk."
"You ruined the moment, man. I can't ramble now."
"Fine... I knew that we would last... until Savannah. And that's that. So... no. I would've eventually found out about Savannah making our relationship dead. Completely. But you're lucky 'cause you turned me... and now with Ariana... we're good again... as friends."
"Just friends?" he said, leaning closer.
"Just friends," I whispered, going back a little.
His beautiful face was too close for comfort. If he came closer... I would have to kiss him. I would have to tangle my fingers into his thick black hair. I would have to rip his shirt off, bite his lip, etc. etc. Vampires cannot control themselves. Only on rare occasions. And for some reason I remembered Kelly. She must be traumatized. Holy crap! I immediately got up and dialed her number.
"I just had the craziest dream," she said.
"You were a vampire and you turned Ariana into one and I was freaked out."
"Crazy dream, there," I said, happy with relief.
"Where are you guys?"
"Well, Ariana's at her... aunt's house for the weekend. And I'm at a friend's."
"Oh... well... I'll be having Logan over then," she laughed, "oh, and in the dream... you were with Professor Black!"
"No!" I droned, "shockingly".
"Yes! It was all too creepy."
"Well, Kelly," I said, "have fun, doll."
She hung up. My stomach grumbled.
"You hungry?" Wren asked.
"Yeah... but not for food."
"I've got some blood in the fridge."
"Oh... that's so convenient."
I opened the fridge, and grabbed a bottle filled with red liquid. I gulped it down. It felt so good, like swallowing ice cold water on an extremely hot day. I scanned the fridge for more. I felt Wren come up behind me.
"You know," I said, "I like it when you stare at me. But it's starting to freak me out."
"Really?" he whispered, "I'll stop then."
"No!" I said to quickly.
I turned around, watching him drink the wine. He placed the glass by the sink.
"Vampires can't stop themselves, Sofie," he whispered.
At first, I was confused. Then I got it.
"You know that? Don't stop," I whispered.
He leaned in to kiss me. It felt like the lips of an angel kissed me. I reached up to deepen the kiss. He grabbed my ass as I encircled my legs around his torso. He placed me on the counter. My fingers pulled his hair and he moaned. And I wished that this was it. That we could forget everything. But I couldn't. I tried stopping... but something just made me do this. And I started to slip hand into his shirt. My fingertips brushed against his lean washboard abs. His tongue snuck into my mouth. I started to unbutton his shirt. I was back into his arms. He was holding me.
"Woo," Ariana said, waking up from her sleep, "hot vampire action. Continue, continue."
As soon as she talked, Wren dropped me and I hit the kitchen floor.
"Shit, sorry," he said to both of us, running his fingers through his hair.
Realizing his shirt was open, he started to button it. And he helped me up.
"I didn't mean to stop you two," Ariana said, pretending to go back to sleep.
"There's nothing going on," I said, "it's just vampire hormones coming into play. Wren and I are just friends. It's as simple as that."
"Yeah," Wren said, plainly.
"I really didn't mean to stop you," Ariana repeated.
Thank god she stopped us.
