Let's start a riot!
The music blared through my ear phones, but as I walked through the school doors, I hit the pause and turned my black I-Phone off, watching the screen go dark. Ara was holding my hand, staring blankly at her new phone, same as mine yet white in color. I thought she looked pretty in her grey sweater, skinny jeans, and black converses. The simplicity still made her look beautiful. The grey sweater was covered in cross-stitching, draping over one shoulder and hugged her curves, same as the dark rinse jeans. She looked up at me and smiled. I laughed at how much smaller she was, but I held her tighter as I opened the second door to the commons. Shouts, whistles, and questions began to bounce off the walls.
"Damn, how did he get her?"
"Oh my God! She is like pretty."
"She gonna be a cheerleader? I'd love to see that thang in a skirt."
I turned to the direction where the last comment came from, full of rage. Face to face, was the demon I had encountered the night Ara ran off.
"Sinclair," Ara hissed.
"Do you know him?" I questioned quickly.
"He broke into the house when you were gone." I was worried she didn't mention it, but if he left, she must've done something.
"Ara! Balthasar! So glad to see the angel and my doppelganger together. Too bad, I will have to kill this beautiful flower."
Sinclair grabbed Ara's chin, and to retaliate, she bit his hand. A drops of black blood started to form between his wrist and thumb from Ara's teeth. Sexy, I smiled. His howl echoed off the walls, but students crowded around shouting more questions.
"Balthasar, you're a twin?"
"That new guy is hot!"
"Probably 'nother dumb ass jock for the school."
Ara turned to a small voice, to find another girl with blue and black hair. Her small, slanted brown eyes stood against her pale skin. My skin crawled looking at her almost translucent complexion. Ara and her exchanged smiles, and shook hands. I was glad to see Ara make a friend, but I was going to protect her from whatever harm was to come.
"Hi. I'm Mika," the girl said smiling.
"I am Ara."
"You and Balthasar a thing?" She questioned.
Ara's face flushed with color, "I...I do not know."
"Yes," I whispered in Ara's ear, loud enough for Mika to hear.
I grabbed Ara's arm and walked her towards our first class, History. When she sat down, Ara grabbed her notebook and her textbook, sitting straight up. Mrs. Daegas walked into the class room, and began writing on the board, President John F. Kennedy.
"Holt, tell me about John F. Kennedy."
"Sorry, teach' I don't do old people stuff. Too boring. I enjoy things like ladies," Holt turned to Mika, who kindly smiled and then slapped his face.
The class roared with laughter.
"Mrs. Daegas," Ara raised her hand. "John Fitzgerald Kennedy, often referred to by his initials JFK, was the thirty-fifth President of the United States, serving from 1961 until his death in 1963. After military service as commander of the Motor Torpedo Boats PT-109 and PT-59 during World War II in the South Pacific, Kennedy represented Massachusetts' 11th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1947 to 1953 as a Democrat. Thereafter, he served in the United States Senate from 1953 until 1960. Kennedy defeated Vice President and Republican candidate Richard Nixon in the 1960 United States presidential election. At forty-three years of age, he is the youngest to have been elected to the office, the second-youngest President, and the first person born in the twentieth century to serve as president. A Catholic, Kennedy is the only non-Protestant president, and is the only president to have won a Pulitzer Prize."
The class was speechless. Even Mrs. Daegas sat in her chair and dismissed all homework.
"Great! Go Ara!" Graysen clapped, a squid plush hat sitting on his head.
"Way to go Ara!" Jakson cheered.
"Nice, babe," Holt smiled.
People began cheering for Ara, she flushed red not realizing she had let the whole class have a free period. But I was glad people liked her. The class chattered at Ara flipped through the pages of her textbook.
"Ara, come here," Mrs. Daegas called.
"Yes ma'am," Ara walked to her desk.
"You are exceptional!"
"Why, thank you Mrs. Daegas!"
"How do you know so much?"
How? Ara began to teetered on her feet, and almost fainted without me catching her fall. The class looked worried and began to whisper their own questions about Ara, but I ignored them as the bell began to ring for the next class period. Walking into the hallway, I held Ara's hand.
"Balthasar, you bastard!"
"You didn't tell us you found a chick over the weekend!"
I turned to find my best friends, Graysen, Holt, Jakson and Alaric. Their faces painted laughter, amusement, and their usual teasing smirks. Graysen wore his usual beanie, a dark shirt with jeans. Holt didn't shave, wore a tight shirt and dark denim. Alaric had his huge black utility jacket on, a red shirt underneath with black pants. Jakson stood farther away, wearing a blue pull over.
"Oh, come on. We all know I can get chicks better than you," I laughed at them.
Ara's face went gray at those words, I regretted what I had said. She pulled away when I went to hug her, and she walked away with Mika.
"Dayumm, that blue girl. I like that," Holt went on. Typical, Holt.
Alaric looked at me, "You pissed her off, man."
"I know." Dumbass, look what you did.
