Early the next morning when I was just waking up, I heard Morgan's heavy oaken door across the way close. Sarah Morgan was still asleep. I didn't want to wake her by getting up to go see Morgan before she left. I would go see Morgan a little later to watch her at training.
I got up and took a shower in my en suite bath and powder room. When I was finished and dressed, I heard Sarah Morgan giggling in her crib. She was jumping up and down and squealing.
She jumped up and right out of her crib! I knew she was too far away to catch her, so I reached out with my cupped hand and made a ''come here gesture'. she stopped her forward movement and floated over to me. I picked her up out of the air. and snuggled her head to my chest.
"You must wait for mummy to get you out of your bed honey bunny. I know you can jump, but it scares mummy when you do that."
I told her gently. Raising my voice didn't work with her. She would just get stubborn and fold her arms and stick out her chin, similar to what I did sometimes.
"Okay mummy. Me fordot."
She would be good for awhile until her Elven nature took over and she wanted to leap around again. I could see the tiny bumps of wings forming under her shoulder blades. I didn't want to stop her Elven nature from forming, I just wanted to help her control it before she got hurt.
"Very impressive. I didn't know you could do that."
I turned around to see Thalion standing at the door. I was glad to see him, but I was surprised at his sudden appearance. I raised one eyebrow.
"Hello darling. You should have warned me that your injuries caused so much brain damage that you lost all your manners concerning knocking on the doors of girls who might not be dressed and ready to receive visitors!"
I pretended to be annoyed, but the big grin on my face pretty much put the lie to that one.
He laughed heartily and came forward in one long graceful leap and enfolded both of us in his arms. Sarah Morgan reached up and covered his face with big smacking kisses.
I was so happy! There was still the solid lump of sadness for Morgan in my heart, but for now it wasn't uppermost in my mind.
Thalion released us so I could take Sarah Morgan into the bathroom to get her washed and dressed. I put her in a little green denim overall with a yellow t-shirt underneath.
"You look like a marigold in the grass."
Thalion told her as he picked her up. I laughed. So did Sarah Morgan, although she had no idea what he was talking about. I was so pleased at how well he had taken to fatherhood.
"I saw you you bring the baby over to you. How did you do that?"
"Telekineses. The ability to move things with my mind. I've always been able to do it. Whenever I got mad at my mom I would stand still and fume. Everything around me would fly around. Sometimes stuff got broken. That was another thing about me that scared mom."
"She was really young when she had me, my age, but she didn't even have Aunt Sarah to help her. There's a rift in the family that I don't know the reason for. Later on after I started school, mom allowed me to spend summers on the island because she couldn't afford babysitters. Mom was too proud to take a penny from aunt Sarah, but she never objected when aunt Sarah sent me home fully outfitted for school.
My mom loves me. I'm everything to her, but she didn't want me to suffer the way she did as a single mom. That's why she called the adoption agency when I thought that you had died. She told me later when I called her from the island that she would never have gone through with it. She would have found a way to raise Sarah Morgan. She wants me to come home, but I told her that I have to stay on the island. I'm trying to get her to come here, but she won't. I don't know why."
"Did you ask your aunt Sarah about it?"
"Once, years ago, when I was about twelve. She took my face in her hands and kissed my forehead. She said that some stones were best left unturned. There could be snakes under them. Then she said that in the fullness of time I would learn my destiny, but not yet."
"Now you know that your destiny is to fight evil on this island. Telekinesis could come in handy on the battle field."
I considered this for a minute.
" I suppose it would. I could pick up a demon from a distance and shake him upside down until he was too sick and dizzy to fight. I could start a whole new magic medical condition, Shaken Demon Syndrome!"
Laughing Merrily, we all headed down to breakfast.
