Sudden Reunion

When Mike headed toward the orchard 'to get some ice' I had to stifle a laugh. It was no use to lie to me or make excuses, because little white lies are not white, they're gray. they come somewhere between the bright light of truth, and the darkness of deception.  I knew that he planned to speak to Ash too, but that wasn't from his aura. That was from the island.

I had been feeling its' presence since I climbed out of the helicopter upon arrival, but it had only started speaking to me within the last few days, as the epitome of evil found its' way closer and closer to the island.

Now I knew how uncle Ben knew everything that was going on among my friends. The island was something of a tattle tale.

When Mike was in the orchard, I could hear his voice in a distant link with someone else. I was beginning to hear and feel what was going on with my friends in the same way I could see their auras. I couldn't tell what was being said, nor did I try to. I didn't intend to eavesdrop, it's just the distant voices popped up in my mind. I couldn't stop it.

When that link ended, another one surfaced. This link I recognized.

"I will help the girl."

The island whispered to Mike. This was an interesting twist. the island had never spoken to an 'outsider.' to my knowledge. Perhaps he had become an insider in the few weeks that he had been here.

When Mike went off to approach ash, I called up the island's spirit and asked it what it wanted me to do, and what its' plans for my friends might be. By the time  Mike was finished with his chat with Ash, i knew exactly what I had to do.

I marched straight toward Mike with determination in my heart, and purpose in my soul. I saw his aura cringe for a second as I approached.

"We'll have to come up with a plan of defence for this island, it's the only place in the world with enough magic of its' own to help us. Uncle Ben, Aunt Sarah, as well as the island itself is willing to help us."

I told Mike, without preamble. I have an annoying habit of getting straight to the point, whether the other person is ready to hear it or not. Subtlety is not my strong point.

"I would ask how you knew all this without even leaving your mat, but I already have a pretty good idea. Is there a spirit on this island? I'm not talking about Fancy Anne, I mean something older, ancient in fact. Something with a great deal of power."

"The island is the spirit, and the spirit is the island. I can't explain it any better than that."

As I finished speaking to Mike, I could feel the air around us ripple. For a moment I felt that I had been caught in the eye of a hurricane. The space directly around was in violent  turmoil. I could see by the bewildered look on Mike's face that he felt it too.

Before we had a chance even to react, a person appeared out of the airy  maelstrom , and right after him, two more people.

The man who now stood before me was someone I thought I'd never see again.

I screamed as I ran into his open arms,  and  he crushed me in his loving embrace.

The End
