Chapter one: Disaster Erupts

The calming sounds of waves consumed the beach. Chatter erupted here and there and infected the whole place until everyone was talking. There had been sudden shiftings on the ocean floor, which, if it became powerful enough, would soon become a tidal wave. If the tsunami did come, the village would be crushed.

I would be crushed.

Damitria sauntered toward me and said, "Darren!  Why're you here? you should be at home, working on your project on shiftings of the ocean floor. Remember?!"

Everyone stared after us. They'd become so paranoid and distressed about the thought of a possible tsnami that they would flinch at the mere mention of the subject. They were subjected suddenly to some kind of hypnosis.

"Okay. I'll be there in a second."

Suddenly, the earth beneath me shook, and then stopped. I stooped down and pressed my ear to the sand. I heard rumbling. The ground began to shake violently as I got to my feet. The water in the ocean swirled and waves crashed against each other. "TIDAL WAVE!!!" a man in the water yelled.

The beach burst into sudden panic. People ran around like disoriented mad men. Others were paralyzed in shock. Me? I was one of the crazy men. I'm only fourteen! What would you do?! After I regained my sense of logic, a wave hovered over the beach. It was probably two- hundred feet tall... and that's just a rough guess. I sprinted off of the beach and toward the open land. I don't know what drove me to do it, but something did. The wave crashed to the ground furiously, right over top of me. I knew where I live, well, once lived, was gone. I knew I was the only survivor. But I also knew something else... I was home.

Atlantis.
