Covered in someone else's blood, Erin Olden appeared in the Magic world when she was a young child with no previous memory of her human life before that day. Now at sixteen she must find out who she is, what happened to her family, and why someone is killing Magics to keep it that way, before she and her friends are next.
A bead of sweat slithered down Ezra Olden’s face as he stood in the middle of a vast taupe field, picking wild flowers to bring to his family’s burial ground. Most of his family had died in war, however his mother, father, siblings and grandparents had been burned alive when their house inexplicably burst into flames one day. There were many times in his life when he pondered if being an orphan at such a young age made him worth being a person at all.
As Ezra knelt down to uproot some plants, he noticed out of the corner of his eye a small figure moving slowly towards him. He squinted hard to see that it was a young child in a flowing red dress. Getting to his feet, his eyes re-focused and he realized with nausea scraping against his oesophagus that the dress was actually white and the girl was splattered with blood. He let the coloured flowers crumble to the ground and ran to the girl, kneeling down in front of her. He slowly reached one hand to cup her tiny face crusted with blood in an attempt to scream questions at her, but she stared straight ahead of him, silently inanimate. She smelled like charred hair and damp metal. The most noticeable scent on her was the sickly sweet aroma of death, causing Ezra to cover his mouth to hold back his stomach contents. Despite his revulsion, he picked the small child up and ran back towards town to get help. He tried his best to focus on getting her help and not the sticky, crimson substance coating his clothes and hands.
