Mara was still standing, nervously shifting from side to side as he watched his idiot
brothers approach the Gatakox, attempting to sneak up from behind and to the side. He
hadn't noticed the man watching him, and didn't see the man open his mouth to call out.
"Mara." The man said. A jolt ran through Mara, but he kept looking down at his brothers.
He? The man called out again. "Mara." The man said, a little louder this time. Mara...
Mara is? A shudder ran through Mara this time, though strangely, his body never moved.
Mara felt uneasy, like he had forgotten something important. The man called out one last
time, nearly shouting. "Mara. You were lost. Come here, come to me Mara. I have found
you, Mara, let yourself be found."
Mara bent over double, clutching at his, no her, no his head, and screaming. Opening his,
her, eyes, Mara saw that while he was moving her body was not. He? She? What am I?!
Mara's eyes were wide, looking at a body that wasn't moving the way that she, he, was
telling it to. No, Mara could feel two bodies. Two hearts, four lungs, four arms and four
eyes and four legs. No! No- which am I? Who am I? Where am I? Why do I feel like
I'm two different people?! Mara could feel the sound of that man's voice echoing
around her, his skull. It was still practically ringing in his, her, ears. That voice... I
know that voice. Who does that voice belong to? Mara threw himself, no herself, back,
still clutching her, no his, head, a single word ripping from his/her throat in a horrible
"Mara." Came the answer. The sound of Joshua's voice stopped Mara's screaming, and
she/he looked over at the man, trying not to notice that his/her body was not moving
like s/he was. Mara was breathing heavily, and a desperate, fearful look twisted the face
looking over at Joshua. Joshua spoke one more time, extending his arms outwards. "Come here Mara." Mara came. Mara left the body that s/he could still feel, running to
the open arms like they were the last sanctuary that s/he'd ever see. Their very real,
very solid warmth was reassuring somehow, and Joshua held Mara tightly in a protective
embrace. Joshua petted the back of Mara's head in a soft, comforting way as Mara quailed
from internal confusion.
