Joshua returned four days later, a full day before scavenging would be necessary again.
Mara had finished two small tables by this time, and found a room that she felt would
work as an ideal latrine. All her explorations had prompted her to sketch out a map of the
cave system into a small pile of sand in the main cavern, and she had marked off certain
rooms in the cave for various things. Next to the map of the cave, she drew a map of the
surrounding woods, as far as she had gone. It was complete with the locations of fruit
bushes, berry patches, and the best places to find herbs, grass, fish, rodents, and sticks. To
the far side, almost hidden in the dark, Mara had drawn a map of the parts of this world
she had been in, as accurately as she could, thought she was afraid the distances were off.
The pond Kaze had shown her, and the fertile valley with the people, as well as the tall
mountain range, were all drawn on this quiet map.
Joshua had looked over the maps with a nod of approval, saying that he'd add to the middle
map of the surrounding area later. He was also glad to see the tables and looms that Mara
had made, giving them a shake to test their sturdiness. Mara showed him the rooms that
she had designated for various parts of her underground home, a room near the pantry to
serve as the kitchen, a few medium sized ones to serve as bedrooms, a small cavern
(but still a very large room) that she wanted to turn into a library someday. There was a
room that she thought would work well as a studio, since Mara would have to make her
table ware and pottery, and other such stuff from scratch.
